Fall practice - scrimmage 10/1

Aaron Suttles at the T-News does a good job of covering the team. He is out at the scrimmage today taking it in. He's Twittering from out there.

A couple interesting notes. Said the scrimmage was the "first team" versus the "second team" (at least as it stands today). First-team lineup:

1. Dugas, CF
2. Smelser, DH
3. Reaves, SS
4. Rosecrans, 1B
5. Miller, RF
6. Kelton, LF
7. Bennett, C
8. Booth, 3B
9. Gifford, 2B

He also had some interesting words about a transfer from Jacksonville State that is a hard-throwing pitcher by the name of Jason Zylstra.

It could just be me but there's a handful of names right there that I know weren't on the squad last year and had not heard in any of the threads about recruits. Here is a roster for anyone as lost as me.

Is the scrimmage tomorrow still set for 10:30?

Yes! Today they went 6 innings and tomorrow is 8 innings. I also heard they're holding out Adam Morgan until next week.

Well, I know about Rosecrans, but Gifford I'll have to look up and read about. He isn't too far from where I live over here in Georgia. I imagine he was on the little league teams from Warner Robbins that won it all a few years ago, not sure on that one though. Sure someone else might could find that out!

Will be interesting to see how he adjust from juco pitching that he saw to SEC pitching. Looking at some of the teams he played against, to be honest, they weren't exactly baseball power houses. Granted a .422 average and striking out 1 time every 60 AB's is pretty good no matter what the competition (unless its slow pitch softball ). Good power with 10 HRs.
