Fall Practice Updates (Practice reports, Interviews, and Scrimmage Notes)

If the holes are big enough...anyone can run up the middle. Our bigs up front should be able to give the RBs some daylight and the QB a little bit of time to throw the ball this year. What will be interesting to see is how CLK decides to use QB movement this season. He had BS rolling out quite a bit and I know Coker was doing it as well. Where your QB is in the backfield greatly determines how you have your OL blocking up front. You may have the best OL in the nation, but if the QB runs away from the protection, your blocking is no good. (2004).

These are some good observations! I second the opinion of the O-line being able to help out RB's in the middle of the field (look for Arkansas to test their mettle); from what we are hearing out of camp they are a consistent and talented group that should be a huge boon for those lined up in the backfield this season. On the matter of rolling the QB out, I also know some of that plan with Sims was to pull down opposing linebackers in zone coverage. Sims, who was a dual threat, rolls out creating a scenario where he could put yards up with his legs, causing LB's to respect his ability and come downfield to contain him, therefore allowing more opportunities for 1 on 1 match ups between our WR's and their CB's. If they don't bite he had a good chance to gain yards on the ground, and if they DID bite he had Amari Cooper in space, shattering their zone coverage. With a young QB behind such a big line I will also be curious to see what CLK does. Do you keep him behind big bodies like a comfort blanket? From what I heard it was Morris who was deceptively athletic and mobile? (Correct me if that is the wrong QB) Maybe a strategy that was similar to Sims will work there as well?

Nope. They`ve been together as a unit pretty much since spring. Chemistry and continuity should be there. Main thing I`m hoping for is an attitude on 3rd and short.

I think this o-line can be a pretty good one. Plus the guys we've recruited in the last two years offer a lot of promise as far as depth for this season and for the future. Given we have a new QB, solid line play will be paramount in establishing the run game to take some of the pressure off and giving that QB the half a second of "extra time" in making his reads.

I'm very optimistic about this group.

This just in ......Joey Galloway says that Alabama has no offensive line, no go to WRs and no QB. "Without those weapons they cannot win the west and will not win more than 8 games this year." Don't ya just love his non-biased opinion??

Uh oh....that means we have only running backs to field on offense...we're gonna need to get more running backs...I guess if we could teach one of the nose guards to center the ball, we could just kick field goals...and where is our offensive line, if we don't have one...oh I don't know, I'm so confused...

*Like*. I think they were still experimenting with Taylor and moving Arie around even this late in camp last year. Having pretty much the same guys go through spring and this much of the fall together is a really good sign, in my opinion. Hope they are able to take a lot of snaps together over the course of the season.

Well that does it for me. With such astute analytics and reasoning, I guess this will be my last post for the entire football season. Joey has spoken. I can always hope we slip into a Birmingham Bowl bid or dare I even dream about the Music City Bowl. I haven't seen Opryland in Lights in quite some time.

I guess this frees me up to work on the cold fusion research I've been doing in the garage on weekends. I just hope Joey gives us a better outlook in 2016....

In his spare time, Joey can help with your cold fusion research. He's obviously got the football thing figured out. :)

We don't really have a QB on roster who can do with his legs what Sims could do...

More Minkah praise.

Absolutely not. It was Bateman I was thinking of since he practiced a little with the WR's earlier this season. I'm hoping for someone a little more mobile than McCarron who's just mobile enough for LB's to doubt themselves when and if he rolls out.
