News Article: Farewell Andre

Well, I hate to see him go out in the manner that he did, but let us not forget that he was an unbelievable player for three years how, and frankly he committed to a program and a head coach that honestly couldn't offer him the things that many other elite programs at the time could (like USC, LSU, Florida, etc). Rationally he should have never signed with us, but his love for Alabama ultimately brought him here. He chose the Tide and played a crucial role in rebuilding our program, and for that we should all be very thankful.

And honestly, we all knew that when Andre came in and started at left tackle from day one that we were only going to have him for three years.

From watching what happened in the two games we were without him, it's obvious that we wouldn't have won 11 of the 12 other games if he hadn't been in there. Maybe only about 8 of 'em.

I wish him all the best.

Thanks Dre for all the hard work, and wish ya the best at the next level.

Hate the way it all ended, but everyone makes mistakes. You came to Bama when many didn't want anything to do with Bama.
Thanks for that...

:BigA: ROLL TIDE :BigA:

I wish Smitty the best and hope that he has an injury-free NFL career with multiple Pro Bowl appearances! Thanks for what you've done at UA!

And for the record, Andre is still helping us even now.

I know it's something we never talk about -- probably because it's so painful -- but the harsh truth of the matter is that our presence in the NFL is now non-existent. We used to be a powerhouse producing NFL stars left and right, but it's all gone now. You look at every roster in the entire NFL, and we have all of three name players in the NFL today (Samuels, Ryans, and McClain). And then you look at programs like LSU, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, and hell even Auburn... they have name players all over the place.

Obviously, that has got to change ASAP. With top recruits these days, honestly, they are mainly looking to be put in the NFL, and that is any program's biggest selling point. Having Andre a highly-touted and high draft choice will only help us by showing all of these recruits that we can put players in the upper echelon of the NFL.

This should not be a surprise to anyone. I would have been shocked to see him come back to Alabama next year. Considering how high he will be drafted, I would have suggested he have his head checked if he came back to Alabama for his senior year.

Congratulations Andre. Thanks for anchoring our offensive line for the last three years. You are one of our all-time greatest. Best of luck!

Roll Tide!

Thank you Andra for your 3 years of service to the Alabama football program.

Again thank you for your service and good luck to you in the future.

Mods if I have broken any rules by posting this message please except my apology but at the same time we all need to remeber that while nobody is perfect how a person represents their school or how they handle them selfs both on and off campus says alot about the persons character and how they conduct their selfs.

If you think about what I just said in the last paragraph why then ya'll should not have a problem understanding where it is I coming from or what is that I am trying say.

At the University of Alabama it is a matter of honor, loyality, pride and dedication and above all respect for self and for your team mates.

Personally, I have let it go

Unfortunately for Andre, several thousand won't... people say "but we forgave Langham"... true, we did... however Langham had a INT that beat Florida and led us to a National Championship and was part of the team that shut Miami down.......................Andre wasn't part of the biggest game in his career and we got whipped... Not saying he alone would have changed that, but its not going to help his case when it comes to A LOT of Bama fans, put it this way, I don't see Andre delivering a game ball in Bryant-Denny any time soon

boilerbama: Being upset with the suspension is one thing. Being angry at a player for entering the NFL draft when he is projected as a top 5 draft pick is petty and selfish. Get over yourself.

I am grateful to Andre for his hard work and dedication while at the University of Alabama and wish him well in the NFL and in the rest of his life.

I think plenty are upset, but it's not fair to compare Andre to Langham. At absolute most, Andre cost us one game -- after helping us win a countless number of games to get us there -- while Langham caused the whole NCAA debacle that started the decline that we are just now fully recovering from fifteen years later.

Bottom line, Andre, or someone near him, made a mistake, and I'm sure it hurts him much more than it ever could any of us. Personally, I hope he goes #1 overall in the draft and we end up hearing his induction speech in Canton.

I agree its not fair to compare Langham and Andre, the point of that was, both caused a lot of controversy for themselves, and Langham has been "forgiven" by most Bama fans, the difference is, during the biggest games in their careers, one of them stood out and helped us earn a National Championship, the other one watched it at his house in another state

no doubt, Langhams mistake set us back years due to probation but that doesn't mean Andres will go less noticed, I think it will more so due to the fact we got blew out in his absence, honestly, if our defense plays like it did, I think we lose with him, but lots won't see it that way, they want to pin it solely on him

as I said last night, Utah beats us everywhere except Punt Return, name a position and they were better, and that is a fact

While what happened frustrated (and still frustrates) the heck out of me; I'm not willing to say that it caused Andre to miss "the biggest game of his career". That game would have been the SECCG in my opinion and he was right there giving it all in that game.

I hate it happened, it did, we lost the bowl game, Andre will be in the NFL next season, someone else will step up to be our starting left tackle, and the sun will rise tomorrow.

Andre,

THANK YOU for your hard work and effort.

Best of luck to you in the pros.

Roll Tide!

In the debate about which misdeed hurt worse, I'd point out that, had AL's foulup been treated precisely the way AS's was, we wouldn't have had the forfeits nor the probation penalties...

Fahr Wohl, Andre'
