Fauci's diary released - he lied?

I think credibility would have been enhanced if they had said, "Wearing a mask won't hurt and, until we get a vaccine, is probably the best we have."
Also, "the vaccine will make your symptoms much less dramatic, but will not stop the spread."
And, "six feet separation is probably better then two feet and it won't hurt to follow that guideline. But 5 feet 11 inches will not get you killed."

Just couch tentative and conditional things as tentative and conditional. "We do not know for sure, but this is the best answer we have as of now," is an okay answer.

You win post of the day. Just be honest about what you know and don't know.

Josh Hawley will always be judged by the clenched-fist exhorting of all those Y'all Qaeda Patriots on January 6th, and then running for his life when the crazies rebelled.

As Hunter S. Thompson once said, "When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro."

Bernie Moreno, Rand Paul, and Hawley just wanted a spectacle. Ultimately no one will remember this moron. I’m still kinda shocked that Moreno didn’t get censored for dropping the F bomb at Fauci. But then again this just proves that this is nothing more than a distraction, witch hunt, and doesn’t matter.

You realize that was impossible with that conspiracy theory driven drug addled oaf who latched onto anything he could to say, "You know, eating paint chips is actually healthy for you!"

I mean, this guy takes George W Bush's misunderstandings but - lacking the awareness Bush could pick up on when the crowd went into an eye roll - he insists that when he's told there's a trillion to one chance that he won the election, he uses that to say, "i won the election trillions of times over!"

Lockdowns were done the moment the protestors were told "hey, you can protest, just stay six feet away from each other."

A reminder that this REALLY DID happen:

A group of health and medical colleagues has penned an open letter to express their concern that protests around the United States could be shut down under the guise of coronavirus health concerns.

The letter – which went on to draw more than 1,200 signatures – focuses on techniques to reduce harm to people protesting racial injustice.

“We created the letter in response to emerging narratives that seemed to malign demonstrations as risky for the public health because of Covid-19,” according to the letter writers, many of whom are part of the University of Washington’s Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

“Instead, we wanted to present a narrative that prioritizes opposition to racism as vital to the public health, including the epidemic response. We believe that the way forward is not to suppress protests in the name of public health but to respond to protesters demands in the name of public health, thereby addressing multiple public health crises.”

This dude’s still a legend for making faces behind Fauci while he was crying... :D
:D

I've been injecting bleach since 2021. Never did me any harm.

I don’t think anyone expects perfection - the conspiracy folks will always conspire, so to speak - but we know for a fact that the leadership weren’t honest.

Just tell us the truth and let us digest it.

You’re absolutely right. The leadership wasn’t honest. But l don’t see the one whom the buck stops with being called to testify, either.

Bernie Moreno is showing a lot of emotion towards Fauci. He’s also amazingly silent over the abuse his daughter is taking from Max Miller.

A lot of these guys are amazingly “tough” when playing a role on TV. Not so much when they should be.

I think Paul is mouse-trapped. Either Fauci is pardoned by Biden or, if not, then he's entitled to the protection of the 5th...
Assuming for a second that the questioner was right and that Biden really did pardon Fauci. If that's the case, was the questioner right when he said that Fauci had no 5th Amendment rights on that topic?

Again assuming Biden did in fact pardon Fauci, would that be public record?

At this point, I'm a whole lot more interested in finding out what really happened (both behind closed doors and in front of the cameras) than putting anyone in jail.

In fact, if I were President and a pardon would preclude assertion of 5th Amendment rights, I might pardon him just so he'd have to come clean....even if the pardon took jail time, fines and civil suits off the table. I just want the truth.

It felt like the more emphatic he was about things that just intuitively didn't make sense, the more skepticism he created. You're either acting like you know it all because you know more than you're admitting or you're full of it and need to project a bold front. Either way, it smelled bad.

I told people at the time that since they used extreme fear to get people to comply when they shut everything down that it would then be very hard to turn that off. That's what's happened. I still see young people wearing masks for example. Real damage was done to the population by many of the things that were enacted. It's not a witch hunt to want answers. If they'd said, this is our best advice based on what we think and currently know it would have been more palatable and easier to offer grace after the fact. Instead, people lost their jobs because they weren't willing to take a shot that hadn't really been tested yet and where immunity was given to the drug companies. Shockingly, that gave many pause.

The problem is that the pardon only covers him from things from 2019 to January 19,2026. The fear is that Rand Paul isn’t using the hearings in good faith and he is trying use it as an avenue to embarrass Fauci or make him to commit perjury on the record. These are the same people who called Hillary Clinton up on the Epstein files when they knew she absolutely had nothing to do with them. It was always about embarrassing or trying to get her to lie under oath and never about finding the truth. No sane person would answer the questions under these circumstances. So Fauci did the right thing strategically and for himself personally. Rand is probably going to get momentum for a contempt charge but it will probably create a constitutional debate that even this Republican led SCOTUS doesn’t want to dabble into.

Of course not, but that doesn’t mean we ignore or excuse everyone else involved.

Real transparent leadership comes from a wholesale criticism of all who were dishonest, regardless of their intentions.

We’ll never see justice for those who were negatively affected by the lies and manipulations, but that doesn’t mean we should just ignore all of it. Without some work to call out and/or punish the wrong-doers, we’ll see far less accpetance the next time this happens.
