Fav. Seafood Restaurant?

I'm not a big seafood eater, if I eat any kind of fish it's catfish and I'll eat a little bit of shrimp my family calls me insane but..so be it but they all like Gumboux's(sp?) in Douglasville, Ga, they swear by it I go to camp out by there and every year my parents go at least once while I'm there. Also Greenwood's in Roswell, Ga has some of the best shrimp and grits, along with Chicago's in Marietta, Ga.

But my favorite seafood place outside of Georgia is Bayou Bill's in Panama City, and the Joe's Crab Shack in Destin, I don't like the one in Marietta, it's just not the same.

BamaLuver,

Do you remember Bayley's on DIP about halfway between Mobile and DI? They used to have some killer seafood.

Glad to hear that the Blue Gill is still open.

Chet's Seafood
3708 West Navy Boulevard
Pensacola, Fl.

Call ahead for seating and hours... They are only open on select days during the week and if you do not call ahead for seating you will wait in a very long line... Phone number is 850-456-0165.

Look for the Alabama Sunshine Hot Sauce on the table or ask for a bottle..

In Mobile, I'd have to say my favorites are:

1) Lighthouse in Irvington, 2) Original Oyster House (both on the Causeway and in Gulf Shores), and 3) Nan Sea's near Dog River.

A few of my fav's don't even favor a restaurant on the outside -- but hmmmm, once you get inside, it's a different story!

The Original Oyster House on the Causeway is very, very good. I am curious as to why Wintzell's Oyster House in downtown Mobile did not make your list. I used to love their seafood.

TiM: Joe's Crab Shack has already opened and closed in Mobile.

Too many rats crawling on the floor, and bugs in the food!

Just kidding!

They just didn't do enough business to keep them afloat.

I am sorry to hear that. I used to go to that Joe's Crab Shack on Airport Blvd. quite often when I lived in Mobile. I wouldn't put them on my list of top Seafood places but the atmosphere was fun.

I didn't see any rats but I did see some mud bugs.

Crimson Surfer: The Wintzell family sold out a few years back, and their food just hasn't been the same.

They also have an 2nd restaurant now in west Mobile, but it's nothing like the "old" one used to be downtown.

However, they do still serve oysters "fried, stewed and nude!"

I remember the Bluegill. Good eats. I alway thought the Battleship Inn was pretty good, too.

There was some joint on Dauphin Island that had all-you-can-eat mullet and grits on Tuesday nights for around $2.95; this was 20+ years ago, though.

There was a place in P'cola called Perry's (?)that was good. It was on the bay, like you're headed from dowtown towards the Navy base.

Sorry to hear that about Wintzell's. I haven't been back to Mobile in over five years. There is still a whole lot of good seafood eating places down there.

Mary Mahoney's is good.

Is it Captain Dave's or Andersons that's in Destin? It's good.

Hate to hear it about Wintzells'. I tried the one in Fairhope in April. The oysters were actually too big for me(fried) since I'm an oyster rookie.

The Arc in Riverside (outside Pell City) has as good fried shrimp as you'll find anywhere.

Aegean Breeze in Gulf Breeze, FL is a great Greek food restaurant that does excellent seafood. Their Greek ribs are great as well.

Captain Anderson's is in Panama City. I ate there last Saturday.

Riverside Dinner

Whell I tried this place today 7/24/04 and it's not worth the $19.95 for the
Seafood Buffet. This place is on Hwy 280 just as you cross over the Coosa
River on your right in Childersburg. I would rate it a 3 out of 10.

The Riverside Diner on highway 280 by the Coosa River Bridge in Childersburg. They have the best seafood buffet in Alabama and believe me, I've tryed them all.

If you are ever in East Tennessee You've got to try Cowboy's Seafood near Seviereville. Take the Seviereville exit off of I-40. Go south to the second light and turn left.(there is a sign) Go about 5 miles. It will be on the right. This is where the locals go to eat seafood.
