1. This was history.... It puts CFB right up there with the NFL no matter how what type of attention ESPN, CBS, CSTV gives us..... WE SENT A MESSAGE ON WAY TOO MANY LEVELS TO MENTION!!!!!!

2. Our Defense will not be stretched from sideline to sideline... We have the speed... We have the endurance..... If you are going to beat us.... you are going to have to beat us up the middle.

3. I dont know what kind of juice our Kickers/Punters are drinking but.... 10+ yards on every single kick... 50 yard punts consistantly... 50+ yard field goals.
JC was kicking the ball 4 to 5 yards deep into the end zone...
I dont know what has happend to them in the last 4 months but if the special teams are any indication as to what type of progress our entire team has made.... WE WILL BE CHAMPIONS!

4. How many recruits signed up? If they didnt sign up today... they were not at BDS!!!!!

5. I had to park at the Medical building, nearly all the way up to McFarland Blvd!!!!!

6. Nakita Stover will be the final piece of the WR puzzle as soon as he gets his hands around the ball.

7. McElroy will be in the hunt for the heisman before he leaves the Capstone...

8. No real standouts at RB.... Grant will be the recieving back...

9. There was nearly 95,000 people in the stadium... Seats were almost 100 percent full. The grounds around the field were nearly packed.... The spirals were completely full! My guess is that nearly 100,000 were planning on comming in and watching.

10. The tide is brewing.... The Storm is comming..... The calm before the storm has just begun!!
Hang on Tidefans..... The tide is about to RISE!!!!

Re: Apart of History! My take of A-Day.

I am with you CR. I was in the Ivory club at the A-Day game. Somewhere near halftime, I saw Steadman Shealy walk to the end of our seats in the tower.

He looked up and out into the upper decks and around the stadium, Then shook his head, smiled, and said this is just unbelievable.

It is a special time for Crimson Tide Football.

Re: Apart of History! My take of A-Day.

Your exactly right. The other day I was listening to some national radio program and some joker says that they only way for CFB to be successful is too immetate the NFL. Actually there buddy it is the other way around. Who here thinks an NFL team could have an intrasquad scrimmage and draw over 100,000 fans? No way. In fact what NFL team has a stadium with 92,000 seats that is sold out every game no matter who the opponent and not matter how good the team is doing or not?

Re: Final A-Day/Spring Practice Analysis, Observations, and Predictions

Just some observations that I've come up with after seeing the game Saturday along with what I've heard all spring. BTW, CR... if McElroy is going to win the Heisman, he's going to have to develop in both the mechanics/talent areas. ;)

First, we are going to lose some games this fall because of our defense. To see the Jackson kid filling in a slot in the nickel back defense as a starter says a lot about how thin we are at DB with the kind of guys Saban likes there. However, it's worse at the front seven than at DB. Simply put, we're paying the price of not having enough "transitional players" between the former and current system as well as the fact that our S&C in past years has not been up to par.

Second, although our OL has improved, we are still going to deal with afteraffects of the past strength/conditioning program. At times yesterday, every starting OL was beaten (didn't ever see Smith get legitimately handled). However, the up side of the situation is that it appears our OC people know how to scheme against it... how we never saw screens/quick passes to the flats under Shula still baffles me. The OL will continue to be the weak link in the offense next year without question.

Third, we don't have the RB we need right now for our system. Johns is still to slow and mechanical... don't know what the deal is with Upchurch. Coffee and Grant definitely performed best yesterday... and Taylor looked terrific at times with the ball... he might have the best "inside running mentality" of all the backs. Huber is very servicable when he's in there.

Fourth, if Brown doesn't look out, he may see Stover supplant him. He took a lot of plays off yesterday and his blocking is subpar compared to Hall/Stover (might have something to do with his injuries). Was impressed with Lowe as a sub at WR... IMO he's better than Arenas right now as the primary KR.

Fifth, I am continuing to be concerned with JPW's tendency to lock onto certain guys in a definite pattern. Whether coming from the play calling or tendency... I don't have a clue. However, he goes a drive or two from time to time locked into getting balls to one single guy... instead of simply reading the defense and delivering the ball at the proper time. BTW, he's getting the ball to his target by buying extra time in the pocket... which is a recipe for murder behind our OL right now. If he keeps doing it, I would predict he will not make the whole season in serviceable health.

Sixth, and maybe most intriguing, is the fact that I got to spend a bit of time with the kid from Foley... Julio Jones. Seriously, just talked to him briefly as he was leaving headed to the football facilities. Guys... we had some high profile kids present... and he stood out from them physically... with no comparison. Physically, he is a freak... and I was wondering (when I was watching him) if he could walk out and start right now- my conclusion was "yes" (at least from the physical standpoint). Also met the Billingsly kid and his mother.

All in all, I was thankful for the effort... and the impressive show of support. I doubt very seriously that LSU ever had a full stadium for their spring game... and we were turning people away midway through the second quarter because space was gone. IMO, over 100,000 people were in town yesterday to watch the game... but I would guess only 90,000 got the chance. We're on the way... but it's going to be an uphill climb until Saban gets some guys in that fit his systems better and we start making up the deficit of the past S&C policies that were in place under Shula.

Rich,
Did you get a sense of Jones' opinion of Bama or any other recruit's opinions?

No... was primarily focused on Jones when I went down to the field level for the last few minutes of the 4th quarter... and then walked about 4 blocks w/ his group of people after the game. If I'm not mistaken, the kids from Saint Paul were with him along with possibly his head/assistant coach. As most of us would have done, I couldn't resist saying, "I hope you roll with the Tide." Though he smiled, he didn't reply... and the look from the head/assistant was "and just who are you?" :)

i dont think the reason k. jackson is getting so much pt already is not due to lack of depth in the secondary. because that is one area on the team where we actually have depth. so much depth at CB that rogers was moved to S. and reamer to OLB. so i dont see that being a vaild point "bamarich". k jackson has been playing lights out the second he stepped on the field this semester according to people i know that are on the field everyday for practice, its not that the cb's behind him arent good its just that k.jackson is a steal that bama got when he committed and arrived here at bama

Thats what I think. Saban is all about putting the best 11 on each side of the field. In my opinion, we don't lack quality depth at that position...Jackson was just a huge steal for us and is ready to contribute.

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I really enjoyed watching our new offense. The schemes that we were running are very exciting. I think that once the team becomes accustomed to the new playbook, Alabama will truly have a "high powered" offense. Unfortunately, I'm far, far too young to remember a time when Alabama was known for being a dominate team offensively. What I am most curious about is how much the offense shown at A-Day will differ (schematically), if at all, from the offense we will see when the season beings.

The absence of multiple penalties (1) and turnovers(0) was encouraging. Sloppy play in the spring game doesn't cost much in the short run, other than wrath of the the coaches. This tells me that there seems to be a little more focus and attention on both sides of the ball to elimination of these game-killer errors. This is a coaching thing, I believe, and is correctable. Perhaps we are in that zone now, finally. The utilization of tightends as receivers was nice to see, too.
We're getting there.

:biga2:

i think the main thing that a lotttttttt of fans dont know about yesterday game was that both the offense and defense played with a very, very, very limited playcalling. they learned and practiced many more plays and schemes this spring but only did the basic plays yesterday. because there was no point in going over the top and using alot of plays when other team's coaches are watching the game live on tv. i spoke to a member of the team the night before the a-day game and he said "we arent going to show much tomorow" (regarding the play calling/ D schemes).

CNS said that after the A-Day game as well. So I am wondering where some of these astronomical predictions are coming from considering that the A-Day wasn't completely a game-type situation. With that said and since I am in TX and could not watch the game, the general consensus is that our team looked a lot better. That is just with a few months of S&C and 15 spring practices. Everything great thing takes time, so I don't expect perfection next year, but within 2 years I'd expect Bama to be in contention for an SEC title every year. Again, I don't think we can realistically expect a title this year, but I'd expect one in the '09 season, maybe earlier (hopefully).

There's one thing I can say without much doubt. That was the most people to ever watch that Alabama game in one stadium before ;)

I hope they continue to improve, 4th quarters won't be our downfall anymore due to lack of conditioning.

Yeah, it's disturbing. Especially noticeable with him and DJ.

I also didn't think he was putting enough behind some of his throws. But it's not so much an issue of arm strength...

I agree that it appeared he locked on to much. I saw a few times he had a guy open deep and didn't see him. Same thing with Mc. too. I saw saban get on to him. I think JPW is less concerned about putting heat on the ball and is more concerned about making safe throws.

If indeed this is a problem, I think CMA and CNS will "nip it" this fall.
