It's wild because they had an outside shot of the AP voting them number 1 and getting a share of the title. I would have been preaching that hard as their coach

Well, I think they should have shown up out of pride for their team and teammates. But the College Football Playoff crowns the national champion and AP and other polls are irrelevant. No such thing as a share of title anymore.

Perhaps not, but going 14-0 and beating the two time champs is a big feather in your hat. And if the actual champion isn’t undefeated you can claim that.

Agree on the irrelevance of polls. I agree with Selma and others who posted the exact same thing. Fans were upset when Bama wasn't ranked accordingly late in the season, but patience is a virtue. When the smoke cleared after Bama had to do what it had to do, the CFP committee ranked us perfectly to everyone else's chagrin.
That's why the coaches or AP poll are just water cooler fodder during the season. Lots of biases in those polls anyway. Nothing significant till the last 4 weeks of the football season.

There might have been a few voters that would have voted them #1, but not enough to matter.
I agree - probably would not get enough votes. But if they did, I would consider it a legitimate national championship. AP still awards one every year - Alabama has the trophies.

But they lost - by 60. 🤡

The AP still awards a trophy, and I'm quite certain any team would proudly display it in their trophy case, and that includes Alabama. Of course, the CFP trophy is the official one, but no team would refuse the AP trophy.

If FSU beat Georgia at least they'd have an argument to make.

However, instead they just showed how deep problems at that program really run. I'm not sure you can point to a program that had a lot of opt-outs that went on a run of success afterwards. I guess this is one reason they are desperate to leave the ACC, they hope throwing money at things can fix their problems.

Their fans, their players, they all showed what this program is about and unfortunately it's nothing good. I hope the SEC is taking note, this was embarrassing for the sport but it was a far bigger embarrassment for who FSU represents.
