Game Thread: Florida State vs NC State - Friday night game ESPN

He should be gone, but I think FSU realizes the competition for the coaches they would want is too intense this year. Plus his buyout is in the $50-$60 range. Maybe if Gus is asked to stay on for next year as HC, then they could dump Norvell in hopes that the available coaching pool will be better. IMO, Gus would be an upgrade on Norvell
FSU can’t afford to fire Norvell. Not sure they can afford to keep him either though.

The OU game went about the same. Ty had a similar performance where he holds the ball too long and and we had a lack luster day on the LOS. The Defense was no where near where it has evolved.

Ty sort of reminds me of Joe Ferguson of the 70s and early 80d Bills. Things seem to spiral psychologically for him when he starts off the game making mistakes.

To me the only game that stands out was the Trevor knight game. I think knight played crazy good in Nola vs us but there was alot about that game that requires context as well.

But after the 2010 USCe game I never thought Garcia was the reason we lost, and have for years wondered where everyone gets this “Garcia” game idea. What I thought that day was USCe was far more fresh and physical than we were and absolutely took the game from us. I remember when Calzada beat us everyone was saying “Garcia game 2.0”… I was like “what game were yall watching?” We lost to aTm that night because our offense couldn’t punch it in on the goal line with Bryce young on multiple trips and our kickoff team kept letting guys go right past us.
Garcia hit a few crazy passes and that’s what we remember.

You’re absolutely right that Lattimore was the bigger issue for our defense that day, and to me the biggest issue in all of these “Garcia games” is our offense choking.

I think Alabama fans tend to overhype mediocre quarterbacks who beat us to the point that they lose sight on what actually beat us. I would say a far bigger issue vs FSU was that their running backs hit 152 yards and 3 of them were averaging 4 yards a carry. It’s like every Alabama fan who hypes up Stephen Garcia… he had an elevated day for him but it really was an average day overall.

Stephen Garcia wasn't even the best QB in that game but nobody ever looks at it.

Garcia - 17 for 20, 201 yards, 3 TD, 1 INT
McElroy - 27 for 34, 315 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT

In that game, Alabama had:
- more first downs
- more yards
- 150 more passing yards
- the same number of turnovers
- and ran 7 more plays from scrimmage
- a safety against (wait for it) Stephen Garcia on the first play of the second half

What beat us that day was Lattimore and their defense totally shut down our running game.

You know what will stun people?
To learn that after halftime adjustments....

Stephen Garcia: 8 for 10, 106 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT, 1 safety, 1 sack
And 45 yards of that passing was on one play.

Garcia had SIX OTHER GAMES in 2010 where he passed for more than the 201 yards he passed against us and they were 3-3.

What gave rise to the "Stephen Garcia had a stellar day" was Gary Danielson saying it over and over for a decade and his "to beat Alabama you've gotta have a hot quarterback."
