Former ESPN reporter Adrian Karsten found dead

bump...

I dont think alot of us realize just how much we are going to miss this guy. I have always LOVED his sideline and special reports (like the one he did for the Bryant Museum when we played UCLA a few years ago).

He was a football guy, who loved ALL football. He will be DEARLY missed by this Bama fan. My prayers go out to his family and dear friends. May got bless his soul. :(

Wow!

I didn't realize he was in trouble with the IRS. I could have sworn I saw him on TV last season.

I wonder if it was suicide...

Adrian was the one always wearing suspenders, right?
Yup. He was a sharp dresser, no doubt. I wish ESPN hadn't put the info about the IRS in there. No need to bring it to light in his passing.

That was the first thing that came to my mind when I read the IRS bit.
Really sad. For a lot of reasons.

..the love of money...

The people on ESPN need their butts kicked major
big time for bringing up the subject reguarding Adrains
problems with the IRS.

The problems that he had with the IRS is nobodys
bussiness but Adrains and ESPN needs to respect that.

I remember talking to Adrian over the railing of the student section before the OU game in 2003 (he said the tide would roll) - seemed like a great guy.

I always wondered what got him taken off college football coverage. He certainly knew his stuff. Maybe it was the problems he was having with the IRS. But what I suspect it was, was that he wasn't a cute female.

Some of the new breed of sideline reporters (read: attractive, young, female) know what they're talking about, but others are just there to be eye candy. And that's sad, because a good sideline reporter can give you useful information during the game. Too many of the ones we have now don't know the players, haven't done their homework, bumble their words and don't really tell you something you either need to know or haven't already seen yourself in the broadcast up until that point.

Back when Karsten was on the sidelines and Gottfried was still sharp, the Franklin-Gottfried-Karsten trio was the best on television by far.

This sideline reporting thing has gotten out of hand IMO. I hate it when Suzy Kolber is working a game, she usually sounds like she has half a mouthful of food and they give her WAAAYYY too much air time. Injury updates are about all they can contribute to a telecast. I don't need to know most of the mindless drivel they regurgitate.

He did hit that snag in 2002 (I think) when asking a player's mother in the stands of a Nebraska game inappropriate questions. Something in regards to the player's dad's death that stunned the mother in front of national television.
