Re: Four Bama football players arrested...

All those on here that think coach Saban should put the four felons in front of a firing squad and execute them can just go ahead and jump off the band wagon now and forever for all I am concerned! I am a Bama and coach Saban fan first and foremost and as far as I have seen he has done a bang up job in all aspects of his job description! Makes me wonder if some of you are really Bama fans or posers!

Re: Four Bama football players arrested...

His attorney, Josh Swords, filed a motion in Tuscaloosa District Court this afternoon asking for permission for Williams to go Pensacola. Defendants free on bond are not allowed to leave Alabama without a judge's approval.

Williams would be in the custody of his mother while in Florida, Swords wrote in the request.
Swords was an offensive lineman for the Crimson Tide in from 1994 to 1997 and often represents football players who run into legal trouble.
Swords noted that Williams, 20, is young enough to be granted youthful offender status, although he did not apply to have that granted. Being granted youthful offender status limits the possible length of punishment and probation and greatly restricts case information available to the public.
I am extremely surprised that the attorney didn't apply for YO. I suppose this means EW has agreed to not ask for it and he plans to plea as an adult. Even if you doubt you would be granted YO, you still apply for it as an attorney, if for no other reason that to cover your own rear end. Wow.

Um, I think you mean "utter," rather than where you milk a cow. However, not to worry, the three accused of a felony are already banned from campus. You can take that back to wherever...
Udder contempt means you hate milk.:D Thanks for the update on banning Boss.

I think there should at least be lip service to the idea of due process. Perhaps hence the indefinite suspension.

Re: Four Bama football players arrested...

The thing I can't stand about this incident is the reaction of some people. Swift retribution plays well in the 24-hr news cycle but it simply is not legally prudent. I don't even think the school can expel the accused whether they were athletes or regular students. It may take a plea bargain or a trial for the school administration to have anything actionable in that regard. Signed confessions point towards this being a quick process ending in a plea bargain and not a prolonged trial, but it still takes time.

The other thing that irks me our those who are participating in "program flagellation" in the last few days. The crimes are terrible and I truly am concerned about the victims but lets not make a mountain out of a molehill. Out of hundreds of men who have been through the program since Jimmy Johns and Elder, there hasn't been one major incident. With that many young men, it was bound to happen again. We haven't even had the typical bowl season ineligibility due to grades since Shula left! Lets just take this as an aberration until we start seeing a continuous pattern of discipline, academic, and criminal problems.

It's not like many of these indefinite suspensions have ended well for the suspended. It is usually a sign to start packing your bags and sending fliers to other programs.
The three who've confessed to a felony are gone from campus and also from the team. "Indefinite suspension" has meant in all cases "permanent." I think we're getting tied up in semantics and I know our rivals are - because they want to. Calloway has a mere glimmer of hope...

He didn't apply for youthful offender status yet, in time I am certain that he will. Someone like Earle would have to address the likelihood of that actually being granted, but I would imagine a 20-year old kid being charged with three felonies and a misdemeanor is an unlikely candidate.

FWIW, in the end I doubt it matters either way. Given the totality of evidence at the disposal of the prosecution, I imagine this one will be resolved relatively quickly with a plea.

Re: Four Bama football players arrested...

I've got to say this; don't mean to offend any one. Does any one REALLY have a serious question as to whether Saban and the university will do the right thing? Come on, I think not. This is totally guided by the legal aspects at this point. At least 3 of the 4 are gone. No doubt.Only the criminal/legal aspects are being sorted out. Sure I don't want them out and about in the community but that's the legal/justice/bond system. Who says they won't still be in T-town whether officially kicked off or not? Unlike aubrens we don't have the perception of a lawless out of control program necessitating the image-making immediate dismissal (except Dyer's gun of course if memory serves me correctly) which may have been questionable at that time from a legal standpoint (how many of the trial/convictions have been completed despite confessions?). So the details are being worked out to get rid of our 4. Of that I have no doubt and wish them gone ASAP.

However I consider this whole discussion healthy in a way despite the fact that I have absolutely NO doubt Saban is doing the right thing (no matter how much Scab wants to criticize him). We obviously AREN'T Penn State with so many weighing in raising the issue that we/Saban/UA do the right thing. That is good and I think shows we are a healthier community than PSU or the boogs. Of that I am thankful no matter the disagreements espoused on this thread.

Williams has already asked for permission to go back to FL. I expect Pettway to do the same. Hayes is from AL, but he was raised by a responsible family and I'd be surprised if he hangs around campus as a persona non grata. Calloway's status is up in the air, since he has not confessed...

This^^^^. It doesn't mean that they shouldn't/won't be dismissed/expelled from the football team/university. We don't need to posture for the talking heads/blowhards like some schools. We are UA and things will be done correctly.

Re: Four Bama football players arrested...

When Jeremy Elder robbed people at gunpoint in 2008, he was initially suspended indefinitely, and later dismissed after all the facts where known. That was the protocol CNS followed that time and it is the same one he's following this time. The people having a fit about them not not being dismissed already are totally missing this. CNS is consistent at everything he does, and he's not going to cower down and change things on a knee-jerk reaction because what the fans or sportswriters are saying. To see Alabama fans crying about how CNS is handling this and using how quickly Chizik and Richt dismissed their players as the argument is sickening to me. I'm sorry if that offends any of you, but do you REALLY want CNS to do things the way Chizik and Richt does? REALLY? Have a little faith in CNS to do things the right way, and quit worrying about what a moron sportswriter or you barner friends are saying.

Amen. No further discussion.

As of Sunday night he had an official criminal record. These beatings now put him in repeat offender status. If you're pleading youthful offender you really want a spotless record and not an instance of "trunk poppin" and getting arrested with an illegal firearm.

Wasn't just directed at you. Hope you can get some R&R soon.

Been workin 10 hrs a day 6 days a week with few breaks. Only get to catch up on events short periods at a time I obviously didn't think out that post very well. Agree with most everything you wrote. Players should be permanently suspended and scholarships taken away for what they did and that is not shameful to believe. No place at any University for that. I just scanned the article. Should have not posted until I read the whole article. Will try to do that tonight. Peace and RTR.

I knew you would address that. I really only noticed just a couple that were going overboard in their disagreement of the 'process' being undertaken by the University and CNS. I have the utmost confidence that what needs to be done, is being done as proper proceedure dictates. Thank you.
