Below is my email -- not that they will care in the least -- to Fox network, which I copied to the local Fox station and its general manager. I intend to keep a notepad and pen in front of the television from the time "24" is SUPPOSED to start tonight, to the time it ACTUALLY ends, and contact every sponsor that runs an ad during that time frame. It won't do any good, but I'll enjoy doing it anyway.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
After WEEKS of pushing, and pushing, and pushing the season premiere of "24," your network chose to carry the LATE pro football game, knowing full well that over 95% of the time these games go past their scheduled times.

The only thing about which I am uncertain is whether the idiocy of that decision exceeds the arrogance, or whether the arrogance exceeds the idiocy.

Very truly yours,

Think this is a wee-bit premature considering it's not listed to begin for another hour? 4th quarter is about to start anyway.

I'm shocked to find someone on an Alabama site complaining about football being on TV. :)

premature?

I don't think it's ever "premature" to predict that what happens 95% of the time, will happen in a given case. In fact, I'm amazed that it seems likely that the game will end up "only" going overtime by about 3 to 5 minutes tonight. (Besides, if I'd waited to see whether the game went overtime, and had then complained, it would have been "20-20 hindsight". )

Alabama fans who don't like the NFL are admittedly a minority. But, we're out there.

good question!

What's "24" about?

I'm watching Anna Nicole Smith Show reruns.

The "general" answer, which you may well already know, is that it's about a counter-terrorism outfit within the US government. Each season deals with a single 24-hour period, and each episode is about one hour within that day.

Probably shouldn't talk specifics, in case people are taping it. The only hint I'll give, which shouldn't give away too much, is that I'm reminded tonight of a presidential administration in which Pres. Carter is married to Betty Ford.

BTW, start time was shortly after 7:13 PM central time. The 95%-plus track record for televised NFL games going beyond the scheduled time remains in place -- as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be ...

They did the same thing last year. It's only a problem if you are relying on your VCR or TiVo to record it for you. Me, I just had my VCR start at seven and end at 10, just to be safe.

to you, perhaps ...

I was watching "live," not relying on anything to record for me. But, as the viewer, I personally regard it as a problem when networks run behind for reasons that should have been predictable. For many viewers, that may not be a problem, and that's fine. But, it is for me, and I know from having talked to others that I'm not the only one.

That is one reason why I have Satellite TV and can get East Coast and West Coast Broadcasts! The other being that their is no cable where I live!

Columbia, SC station in hot water with viewers ...

HEIDI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The "Heidi" incident actually gets a reference in the article linked below!

My favorite part of the story is where they say that due to lack of communication, they weren't aware that the game was running over! Right, and I wasn't aware that the sun would come up this morning.

I live outside Columbia and am one of the outraged viewers

I don't mind that the show started a little late. These things happen all the time. What I do mind is the incompetence of our local Fox station not realizing the game went over and cutting the last 10 minutes of the show.

I really wish Fox would move "24" to FX (like "The Shield" and "Nip / Tuck"), and just stick with cartoons, "American Idol", "Roller Skating with Unknown, Washed-Up Celebrities", and other senseless drivel like that.

station responds to viewer complaints

The t.v. station in question has now announced that, from 7-8 Eastern time, they will re-broadcast the last hour of last night's episode. Previously, they weren't planning to make it available for viewing prior to the broadcast of tonight's two-hour episode -- which, of course, was every bit as stupid as the original error. Apparently they decided to reverse course before their phone lines completely melted down.
