I think that in the future Bama will have one of the fastest D's around you have lot of guys running around 4.5 or so I think tat we are great now and only getting better.

I agree......

We will have one of the best 'd's in the country next year. Terry P, Bay, or anyone.....can you layout what our 'd' depth charts should look like the next couple of years. This will give everyone a good idea of how solid our 'd' will be in the future.

Thanks in advance - RTR

As soon as I get permission to release what the defensive changes are for next year I'll post them. Right now, I can't.

That Linebacker depth chart scares me a little. Starters are possibly the best in the nation but the backups are pretty bad and unproven. Jones and Waldrop had moments where they looked good but are not close to being locks to be productive. I mean come on they were rated like 58 on NCAA Football for Playstation 2. HA.

I wanna start the rumor now that the changes to the defensive scheme is that they are bringing in a Dog Type linebacker/Safety like Miss St. had. It would add a ton of speed and we have the personel to do it, especially with the new ones coming in.

That's...

not likely to change. Kines is one a few to use an "inside-out" scheme. Any QB pressures or sacks by the DTs are strictly gravy. He practically dared our opponents to try running wide. Few did and fewer succeeded...

why would we want to change the defense? it wasn't too bad last year...

Well, you can change certain things even though we were Ranked #1 and #2 on Total Defense our Rushing D could have been a little bit better we were ranked about 38th there, and #1 in passing, there's always room for improvment until you are #1 in all catgorys.

You've got to be kidding me!

First of all, both Jones and Waldrop looked good when they played with the first unit. It wasn't until they played with the entire 2nd team defense in the first three games where they looked questionable.

Also, we literally lose 1 LB from this current team and that's it! How can you even suggest that we might have an issue at linebacker?

Waldrop and Jones played very sparingly. I admit at times Jones looked good but if you feel confident going into a season with only 5 guys that have had time and two of them are Waldrop and Jones then good for you. I don't. I would put our first three up against anybody. If Stamps goes to linebacker permanently and Dawson plays LB then you only really need one of them to pan out to pair with Jones next year as backups. I never said it was a crisis I just feel it's a cause for concern.

I think Stamps...

goes to "D" and stays. Also, one other offensive player will switch. Also, along the lines of what Terry was saying, a couple of structural changes are being examined. I can't go into detail either, but they are intended to take advantage of our team speed and I think they will be exciting...

the only thing i see wrong with the depth chart is i believe that if Madison returns, he will start at CB. SC is good and will receive a lot of playing time. AM did a good job this year and I don't see him losing the starting role if he returns.

Inside-out Outside-in???

I think I get the idea, but can someone with a lot more scheme know elaborate a little more on how our current scheme is designed? Is it as simple as trying to push plays outside and let the defensive speed take care of it???

Almost...

everyone else runs a traditional "outside-in" containment defense. You have to have tremendous team speed to run Kines' scheme. We have it...

I have heard that one of the only other teams that have been able to successfully run this style of defense is Miami. Once you said team speed, TIDE-HSV, I now know why.
