Link: Future Play-Off System

My question is why not keep the existing/or modified BCS formula and go to 4 teams? I agree with most that the SEC chances getting 2 teams under the new format are slim to none even if they are deserving, and you can bet the loser of the SECCG is cooked. With all the anti-SEC sentiment nationally we will get screwed. An 8 team playoff would diminsish that concern but who knows if that will happen and in my opinion is too much because teams that play a conference championship will wind up with 16 games. Can you imagine the injury situation and/or general fatique by that point in time?

Because their very reason for being is to insure that there will NEVER EVER be another All SEC NCG. To do what you are suggesting, would, in most years, insure that there would be another.

I have no doubt the SEC Champ is in no matter what. It's the 2,3, 4 spots I think we could be left out of even if we have a team that truly is one of the four best in the country. JMO

I still think the SEC gets the benefit of the doubt over other teams until proven otherwise. A 1-loss SEC team will 9 times out of 10 make it in the 3/4 slot over a 1 loss B1G, ACC, etc. simply because of recent history. There is a perception that the SEC is a tougher conference and therefore a team with only 1 loss in the SEC is perceived as better than other 1-loss teams. Until the rest of the country can change that perception on the field, I think the SEC will have a better chance than others to get 2 teams in the field of 4.

In the Service we called it SNAFU...... The very idea that a bunch of middle and old age men can do a better job of getting the best two
teams in the NC game is K R A P... Mark my words...this will hurt the Tide down the road... anyone remember 1966? The world hates
the Tide, because they can't be us. The system we have may be flawed, but I think it works better than when we may get. Did I hear
that someone was talking about Fulmer on the Committee.... I think they need to consider the GPA of the O line as a criteria... there
will be no rules for these guys!! RAMMER JAMMER.... let's go get Ole Siss!

Listening to some of you talk about the playoff system is like listening to you in game threads...

The sky is NOT falling...

You act like the last 7 years are just thrown out the door when it comes to a selection committee, but they aren't... The SEC is widely believed to be a better conference, and that will old true until otherwise proven. Yeah, more often then not if a playoff scenario if you have two SEC teams they'll play each other in the first round (that is completely logical, you just have to think of how an SEC season plays out...), but who cares? The only thing you want to do is get in, and then you play whoever they put in front of you... Weak conferences won't get rewarded for playing crap schedules...there is too much money wrapped up in this for them to try and bump in a non-attractive school over someone more deserving...

First, I agree with most of your post, but this part is more suspect. Consider that the money made in the Bowl system is almost all tied to TV contracts. Also consider that most football fans LOVE high scoring games. Now, are you sure that these Bowls wouldn't prefer Oregon, Louisville or Clemson over a low scoring 2nd SEC team?

Well, not too many people are interested in seeing LSU vs Alabama in the NCG besides LSU and Bama fans. But just because it may not be the most interesting game out there doesn't mean it shouldn't happen again if those 2 teams are the most deserving.

Championships should be the most deserving - either by election or advancement - not what is the best for ratings.

Agree with some of the posters who suggested the top 4 BCS ranked opponents should be in the playoffs. Some kind of "impartial" committee making the decisions is very suspect.

Yep - The BCS formula worked pretty well for 2, why not 4? Because politics has its foot back in the door.

The BCS works, it just doesn't work when you limit the "winners" to the top 2. I think it does an exceptional job when you consider top 4 or 8.
