Game Preview from TechSideline - VT's Message Board

If I had to choose, I would rather have G. Mc instead of tie rod. If I had to choose I would rather have Bamas' D than Va. Techs, I would rather have Bamas' receivers and running backs than VPI's, I would rather have Bamas' special teams than VPI's, I like our talent on the O line more than VPI's. What else is there? I say pound the rock up the middle and then pound it some more, I can't see them stopping a healthy Mark Ingram and Roy Upchurch. Pound, pound, pound right at them, smash mouth at it's best.

We actually had a thread on a VT board asking "what bama player would you want to have as a Hokie." Besides JJ and occasionally McClain, nobody could think of anyone else. Each team has the players that fit it best.

Cool, I'm just saying your breaking in 7 new starters and a QB in a very big stage. Not saying were better than you at all. And VT's D is all about stopping the run.

Should be a good one!

Dont'a Hightower? Javier Arenas? Mark Barron? I guess I'm biased:D

I never said there was an argument. I just pointed out some salient facts. There is a thread on your front page now "What size bra does Ms. Cody wear?" That's what I meant by ridicule. That title alone would get you suspended here, even if you were a Bama fan. Just different environments...

How about Mt. cody? The answer to this question will tell me if you are biased or delusional. Really I can't wait till Saturday night, I do look forward to a good hard fought game, let's hope the refs get it right, they killed us against Florida in the SECCG.

One poster on TSL says Ms. Cody, people here say Tie rod. Same difference.

In the grand scheme of things the name calling doesn't mean anything, but it happens on both sites. All that said I'm looking forward to what hopefully will be a great game that is injury free for all involved.

OK Would you rather have MT. Cody as your nose guard on the Va. Tech. team?

Cody would be a great role player at VT, but our defensive tackles have to be able to get up field get penetration and rush the passer. He would probable play 5-10 snaps a game. You never see VT recruit DL anywhere near as big as Cody. Our biggest defensive lineman is 6'2 301 Cody is 6'5 370

And that is a good point. Not all players are one-size fits all. Cody is simply not a traditional 4-3 DT. He's a true 3-4 NT and would only really be effective to a defense in that system. He's big, he can push any center into their QB so you have to double him which is the intent behind playing a guy that size: he forces you to almost always account for him with two guys which will leave 3 to block four.

I have nothing but love for Cody. I appreciate a player that knows his role in the defense and will handle his assignments while also being a huge nuisance for the opposing team to deal with. But he is just not the type of guy that VT uses at our DT spots. Square peg for a round hole.

you're kidding me right??? Tech scores 17 on our D??? hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha:tongue:

Roll Tide

VT's Defense averaged scoring 9.1 points/game last year, so really the Offense only needs to get in the end zone once. That's not what we held points to ....those are points that the defense scored from interceptions and fumbles returned to the house.

An interesting stat: In 190 games under Frank Beamer, the defense has scored in 103 of them. With a new QB and a new O Line, VT's Defense will be looking to create fumbles and interceptions that translate into points. Our Special Teams unit also does not have to face your defense, and it is certainly not out of the question to generate points out of your punting game.

I would not count on VT's Offense scoring more than 10 points on Alabama's Defense. 3 - 7 points is probably more likely. However, that doesn't mean VT as a whole cannot put 17 or 20 points on the score board.

That's laughable dude. Really.

OK, Mt Cody is a top 10 NFL pick, so don't right him off as a 5-10 snap guy. You're showing your football ignorance and making little to no sense. You guys will see just how effective Cody is on Saturday night. :)

Not saying he's bad just saying he doesn't really fit in our 4-3 system. Calm down. I'm sure some of our future 1st round picks wouldn't fit in your system, like our DE Jason Worlids who may be a little too small to be a 3-4 DE.

Correct. In fact Worilds is smaller than some of Alabama's linebackers at 6-2 254 lbs. Rolando McClain and Dont'a Hightower are both around 6-4 250.

Cody is the best at doing what he does. He is a first round talent and is a nightmare for any offense, particularly in the running game. He would not be as effective in every system as he is in Alabama, but that does not diminish how sensational of a player he is.
