Gang Initiation Down on the Plains (DeRon Furr)

Wingnut's tone in the interview they're playing on radio sounded a lot like the tone that was used in the ole siss pine box speach. Something smells on the ugliest village and it ain't cow poop.

And the barners attempted spin is hillarious!
 
Aubies... Go figure. I could understand if he mouthed off to an upperclassman and got put in his place by the man he spoke to, but to be jumped by several? There is no excuse. Kid just tried running with the wrong pack of dogs... :conf2:

I heard a different story. When Tubbs was asked if it was true that he ordered the Code Orange Beatdown or 'COB' as they call it down at the barn, Wingnut said "The truth, you can't handle the truth. Next question." ;)
 
Lake Charles, LA is a long way from the pasture--so far I can barely smell it--so I will have to rely on others for my info. Sounds like this one isn't going to die away, though. I lived in Columbus years ago and the Ledger-Enquirer is unlikely to let it drop--big mixture of Barn, Bulldog, and Bama fans there and Furr was a local star. DeRon will want his full five years wherever else he goes, so he's not likely to go away quietly. And no way this gets dismissed without either a lawsuit or a huge shovel full of hush-hush. Things in Auburn just got uglier than, well--Auburn.:eek2:

Not condoning what apparently went on here nor defending AU. However, anybody who thinks really good teams are not primarily player-driven instead of coach-driven is sadly mistaken.

Two cases in point. Our 92 bunch basically held full-scale practices all summer that year with no coaches around. Also, if it were not for Chris Samuels, Shaun Alexander, and Cornelius Griffin, I shudder to think what would have happened to the 99 bunch under Dubose.

Not to say that the coaches are not important. However, any coach (I think) would tell you that the best teams are the ones who don't have to be continually poked and prodded to do what they are supposed to do by the coaches; there is an internal discipline that never lets it get that far.

Agreed. Good leaders straighten those out who want to do things half way. However, Furr must have really been mouthing off to somebody to have 5-6 guys involved in it.

Very true. BUT to get beat down by multiple people is wrong. What? One or two upper classman couldn't put him in his place?
 
Prolly nothing will come of this, and I may be way off base in my thinking, but I think there is more going on within this situation that what has been made public. Time will tell. JMO.
 
SOmeone on the Barn board linked a scuffle to one of Bama's paractice a couple of years ago trying to comapare the two. The fact is the two are not comparable as the scuffle that took place at Bama's practice was between the offense and defense and nothing happened other than a bunch of pushing. That is alot different than having numerous players jump on one player and beat him until he could not walk off the field without help from the trainers.

Let the Barner spin begin. Let's face the facts as the "leader" of the defense wasn't man enough to handle the situation by himself. He had to call in the whole secondary. Maybe DeRon Furr should have had 5 stars as it took more than one upper classmen to handle the situation.

Very true.

You have to keep in mind that with 100+ coaches, players, and security personnel on the practice field, any real fight will get broken up after a handful of seconds. The sheer manpower available means that any fight can be broken up almost immediately.

Anything lasting longer than that is only because the coaching staff is not having it broken up.
