He is an outstanding leader. I don't think he needs a teleprompter to speak effectively. And most important, he has organizational skills and if you can't help him win, you'll end up at Michigan or some other location. I do think he could look Putin in his eyes and see Evil!

The only thing is we need him in the position that he already has! I guess we're going to have to clone him or send Kirby to D. C. On second thought, he hasn't even been a head coach. And NO, I would not want to see Les Miles in that position either.

To try to be serious, the NG troops have no authority to detain the illegals in any location at all, even with arrest authority. The only place would be local jails. Unfortunately, that's exactly what the locals don't want. In fact, a coalition of local county and city officials have petitioned Perry to back off, that he's ruining tourism by making the RG basin appear dangerous when it's not. Of course, they're caught in an much larger chess game. He hasn't a hope at the nomination, but I don't think he's smart enough to figure it out...

The tourism thing is funny, except South Padre Island. Maybe some people have a thing for Mesquite trees. But yeah, what exactly are they going to do? If they're going to catch them and take them back across the border, awesome. But if they can't take them in to custody, doesn't make much sense.

National Guard troops in a Title 32 status (which these troops would be) would have arrest authority, unless one accepts the Federal assertion that only the Federal government can enforce immigration law and that this power preempts state power to enforce immigration law.
Even active duty Army troops, which would be subject to the restrictions of the Posse Comitatus Act, can conduct reconnaissance from fixed points (but not surveillance on individuals) and radio in the movement of individuals invading the United States so state police can make the actual arrest.

The only purpose I can see is to establish a presence for the purposes of maintaining law and order. If the influx is causing a serious rise in violence, this could be a move in the right direction. Certainly this won't change the dynamics causing the influx, hopefully everyone can see that. Consequently, I view this as a treatment of a symptom, not a panacea to cure the disease.

Reminds me of when the present administration announced the timetable for pulling troops out of Iraq.
That's because if others who wanting to come up through our southern borders, and the folks who bring them, know just how long the NG will be there, they'll just postpone the move until after the troops leave the area.

I have a better idea for texas: declare all illegals and people who assist illegals to be domestic enemies of texas, indefinitely detain them in the desert at a secret location, and when racist holder asks where they are being held, tell him it is a state secret and they cant divulge details. when holder sues, tell him the hard drives that had info on where they are located crashed so no one knows.

And feed them 3 meals each day with the same food at each meal: cornbread, pinto beans,jalapeños, and Rio Grande Water.
