Is Greg McElroy a Bama QB Prospect? / UPDATE: Mitch Mustain lists Bama as a favorite

NBC 13 reported on the 6pm news tonight that Bama may be looking at Greg McElroy, a commit for Texas Tech, as a possible QB recruit. Oddly enough, McElroy stated that he wanted to see both Bama and Texas Tech practice before he made a decision where he wanted to play. If Bama hasn't expressed interest, why does he want to see Bama practice?

Bama has expressed some interest in McElroy already. I believe like some others have stated he was our #2 option after Tebow!

I remember hearing his name a while back when being mentioned with Matt Malouf. If I had to get one of the two I'd definanlty want Elroy Jetson. Malouf played my high school team this past season and from what I understand didn't look impressive at all. So unimpressive that his hometown Rebels haven't offered him a scholly yet ( or so I've heard) Then again, his situation may be very similar to Smelley's, who knows.

Either way, more than anyone else realizes, we REALLY do need a QB this year. Remember when Brandon Avalos started? I don't want that to happen again!

PS. has anyone else noticed that Matt Malouf looks a heck of a lot like John Mayer? Really, who wants John Mayer playing QB?

I've always liked McElroy and the staff has been in contact.... EVEN DURING THE TEBOW SAGA....so that lays to rest all of the "eggs in one basket" arguments.

If offered, it'd be interesting to watch. UA vs TT in the Cotton Bowl, he'd like a "different system" for a change (he plays in a similar TT offense), he had Bama as his original #1 back during camps this summer......so, who knows.

Looking at his profile he has good size, and comes from one of the top programs in TX. It also appears he went to summer camp at Bama? So obviously the coaches are familiar with him, and should have an projection on how he would fit thier system. We'll see I guess, I'm still kind of drowsy from the anasthesia used when they took my "Tim Tebow 4-ever" tattoo off this afternoon! :p

Didn't we win the game Avalos started in? But I know what you mean.

Yeah we won the game with BA

We did it by running the ball 50+ times and passing 5-6 times. I just do not think this will work vs the Barn or Lsu etc...........

i believe it was 6 pass attempts, and 1 interception to boot

Mitch Mustain/McElroy

I was wondering if anyone could give me a real assessment on our chances with Mustain, are we really in the running. Today I listen to 730UMP in Huntsville and McElroy's high school coach said that he will not decommit from TTech and he has never had a player decommit from a school before.

Not sure about the chances of getting McElroy to decommit from TT and come to Alabama. Feel Mustain stays with his Arkansas commitment or goes to UT. UT has no QB commitment and the return of Cutcliffe as OC could be an enticement for Mustain.

yeah just like Alabama has a Qb commitment? :conf2: I do think we are getting on this a little late, but it doesn't mean we don't have as good a shot as UT does. I mean I don't care how you look at our last two games. We didn't go 5-6!!! And the shot at playing time may as well be equal. We have no definite experienced starter, even though we have some numbers, so he could compete for the job. UT has a 2 year starter with 2 more years left. Unless any one else has a different take??

Well unless McElroy's coach is also his dad I'd say he isn't the authority on what McElroy will do. While I'm wary of a kid that committs and de-commits repeatedly, If you make a verbal decision and the situation changes prior to the signing date I personally think a kid has a wright to re-examine the choice. Alabama loses committments almost every year and almost every year we snag one from someone else. In the end every kid needs to make the best choice for himself, not his coach or his parents, or his friends.

While we were not on Mustain early there's no harm in sending a coach out there to talk to him, If you can talk him into a visit you never know, Some players arrive at campus, see the museum and the stadium and they just know deep down in their bones that they belong there. I think Tebow felt that too, but I think he made the choice to make his parents and friends happy instead.

Well, according to TT fans ( TT forum ), McElroy has 0% chance of coming to the Tide. Talk about arrogant! It won't bother me if he doesn't come, but to say a teenager will not change his mind is like saying a porcupine will not pop a balloon you give him just because he promises to be careful.

I agree, no harm in contacting Mustain and apparently we have stayed in contact with McElroy. So who knows. I don't see Mustain to ND, if you look at Rivals.com, ND has a commitment from the #6 Pro style QB and a commitment from the #2 dual purpose QB, looks like Weiss can also recruit. As for Mustain to UT, whether Ainge can come back after this season is questionable. The only other QB in the mix at UT is the RS Freshman who was ranked, I think #4 last year from NC Jonathon Crompton. I just think if Mustain does not re-commit to Arkansas, UT might have the inside track. Although I cannot stand Fulmer or his buddy Cutcliffe they can recruit and given Cutcliffe's role in developing the Manning boys, it could sway Mustain.
