Guillon breaks silence on his quitting team

He's going to get roasted on many fronts come tomorrow in our media... and he's brought it on himself... whether or not he's in the right or wrong with the situation.

I'll believe that when I see it. Knowing our media, they will take his comments and use it as another opportunity to bash Shula and stir the pot.

ok. first, I'd like to know more about the la-monroe game thing. This is all new news to me.

But my initial reaction to all this mg talk is this....Does anyone remember how gosh-darn awful he looked against south carolina 2 years ago in tuscaloosa????? I mean he was totally inept! In my 47 years of going to ballgames, i've never seen an Alabama qb play that bad. Now I realize some are going to say that that was just one game.....but my gosh, what a bad game. He couldn't tie his own shoes that night. Am I the only one that remembers?

mg never showed us anything. I don't wish him ill will, but he is not, was not an Alabama quarterback.

I think the other threads on Marc Guillon can clear that up for you. He was being bashed relentlessly before he even released a statement...now those same people are saying "How dare he!" What's good for the goose...

What does he owe those that bash him regardless?

Whether he is on an arbitrary low road or not, I'd say his intention worked quite well.
True that probably his statement was retalitory in nature... not one that was planned prior to today. However, that's the nature of Alabama football in this state. Personally, considering his background over the past five years and an understanding of how fanatical this state is with UA football, I do not possibly know what else he could have expected after leaving yesterday. IMO, seems like he is trying to salvage some respect... and in doing so I am afraid he will lose even more in the process.

I have concerns with possible problems with team chemistry and leadership issues, but I think Guillon has a history of an "attitude" that did not contribute to unity.

In hindsight, it was a mistake to bring him onboard.

I'll say what I always say in situations like these: He came, he played, and now I wish nothing but the best for him.

Remember, kids have big mouths that more often than not run away, I don't feel that he has any ill will, probably just frustrated from the combination of injuries and not getting the nod to start.

This just might be the spark that lights the fire in this team. Perhaps someone will stand up and say you're either with us or against us and start kicking down doors from Knoxville to Baton Rouge.

Any way you spin it, firing a departing shot at Shula took audacity.

I guess the thought is that the pen is mightier than the sword in MG's case? I can't see how sending an email to the news media is audacious. There was a time (maybe I'm just getting too old) when these matters were left in-house by the players. By bringing it out into the open, he only makes matters worse for himself in the eyes of the fans he respects so much. He has disrespected his teammates and coaches by doing what he did - even if he's 100% correct in what he says. Insolent, maybe; but not audacious.

Think about it this way...maybe Marc could have said worse - or maybe he will.

Given that CMS actually has said very little about the situation, MG saying anything else would be worse for MG than for CMS - even if what he's saying is true, which, at worst so far, is that the coaches told him he would get more playing time and apparantly he didn't get what he was told he might get. The way to handle this is NOT through the media.

audacity–noun, plural -ties. 1. boldness or daring, esp. with confident or arrogant disregard for personal safety, conventional thought, or other restrictions.

He called Mike Shula and his staff liars. Bold. Daring. Confident. Arrogant disregard for personal safety.

As I said, Marc's statement sounds pretty audacious to me. ;)

Why is that the way NOT to handle it? What do you think Marc Guillon was trying to achieve with his press release? A peaceful and harmonious exit with grace and a smile to an adoring fan base who had already been bashing him for years? Or an attempt to belittle an hinder a coach that had a contempt for him?

As mentioned, I think he achieved his goal in this matter.

I am not so sure that Marc meant to stick his thumb as deeply into Shula's eye as your post indicates, but he clearly wanted to slip in something that explained why he left. Every talk show and newspaper was demanding an answer. He provided one. Perhaps it was ill-considered, but he is young and was clearly emotional.

Whatever MG's reasons he should have kept it in house. It sure doesn't take a lot of cahoonas to e-mail the media. Obviously, MG doesn't take commitment to heart either at Miami or Tuscaloosa. Unfortunate trait in a young man.

Nope... and because he wasn't he's going to be crucified by the majority of Tide fans for the rest of his life. Not that it matters though... because he can escape that to a degree if he returns to California.
Reading posts on other sites, it seems that most fans are upset with Marc. I wonder what the media will do with it over the next few days. This could actually take some of the heat off of Shula - until Saturday afternoon...

Nothing bold about a letter to the editor, PUA & NYBF.

Classic disconnect between denotation and connotation. "Exotic" and "weird" both mean "different", but no one's ever dangled a ten-spot for a 'weird dancer'.:biggrin2:

Thus the reason I said it was insolent (which is a better fit than audacious). There's nothing bold or brave or daring about writing an email to newspapers. It IS rude and disrespectful. Petulant and childish may be apt as well.

But that aside, maybe he has achieved his goal of making his name now spell "M-U-D" ;)

Even I know when to concede an argument to the sleep deprived new papa and owner of the website. ;)

I thought that any unfair or harsh criticism of any players or coaches was not allowed? The mods always say "remember that players read these boards".
Guillion has gotten hammered on this board way before he quit the team.
Now I guess since he is no longer a member of the team any thing goes.
I read his statement and it wasn’t even close to insulting Coach Shula.
"Numerous false impressions the coaches gave me."
Big whoop.
Maybe the coaches led him to believe he would get more playing time or maybe they didn’t.
Heck he may have thought that because he was the #2QB that it automatically entitled him to a certain number of snaps in practice.
We will never know.
Personally I think that He was demoted to 3rd behind Barnes so that Barnes could get more snaps in practice and improve for next year.
While, if this happened and that is what made him quit, this is a move that would help the team in the long run I think that he should have remained #2.
I don’t know if this is what happened but it makes him quitting more understandable.
