I will never understand why Sean Payton (and Drew Brees for that matter - if he was so unaware as not to know anything about the bounty, what kind of team leader was he really????) is not universally despised...

For the same reason that Auburn isn’t universally despised nationally but Alabama is. People hate the Patriots, Belichick, and Brady more because they won, but they give the Saints a pass. What the Saints did was far worse than a few deflated footballs (even though there is now evidence that the NFL withheld evidence) and a guy recording sideline coaches.

Auburn has actually be involved in the same scandals we have and sometimes worse than us, but both the NCAA and court of public morons have always bought into Auburn’s victim crap.

So yeah Sean Payton maybe the perfect coach for them alongside Gruden. I wish one of them would take the job

IDK. There really hasn’t been too much hatred towards former AkSt coaches by their writers and fans as there has been in the past week about Harsin. From what I gather is the guy only knows football and has no people’s skills. You can get away with that at a mid level program but a top 15-20 program you must be able to get along with the donor base to survive.

I know everyone says “well saban tells the donors to pound sand”. That’s not exactly true. CNS has several engagements that he probably doesn’t want to do that he has to. Namely REC meetings after the scrimmages and the Hey Coach show. Yes CNS doesn’t have to deal with them coming to his office or having to go their daughter’s wedding, but he does have to work with them in some capacity.

Harsin mostly treated boosters like crap and has not done anything to build relationships. While I know many here want to back Harsin because they hate Auburn more than their coaches, but it’s impossible to say that Harsin isn’t to blame for this.

Falcone made $1.7 Billion in fees. Between Lowder, Harbert and Rane, if they needed to, they could do this every year or two and never even touch their principle. It is also why they will never allow it go to discovery.

People liked the Patriots, too - in 2001, when they beat the Rams. It wasn't until they won 3 Super Bowls in 4 years that everyone turned on them, which is why a large section of the country wanted them to not go 19-0 a few years later.

Generally speaking, Americans like the underdog. The Saints spent 40 years as an underdog plus had the unique situation of Hurricane Katrina less than five years before they won the Super Bowl. Folks were largely for the Saints vs the Colts because Manning already had a ring.

Auburn has actually be involved in the same scandals we have and sometimes worse than us, but both the NCAA and court of public morons have always bought into Auburn’s victim crap.

I disagree. Folks hated Cam Newton, too. They were against us and "for" Auburn in 2013 solely because we were aiming at a 3-peat. It wasn't love for them, it was fear/loathing of us.

Gruden is kryptonite right now given the circumstances of his departure - particularly in a Southern state with our civil rights history. I can't see Payton wanting to go to John Deere U, either.

If the barn is going to fire Harsin, but they don't have a replacement on board, then they will announce his firing about 5 minutes after the Super Bowl kicks off. That way their complete stupidity will be witnessed by far fewer people. And on Monday everyone will be talking about the Super Bowl and not the ineptitude down in Lee County Georgia.

Locally (Birmingham) a reporter asked him as he was leaving the SEC Office/Coaches Meeting if he "would be coaching at Auburn next year?" He simply glared at her, with a smirk, and said nothing.
