hey everyone, i just wanted to introduce myself. i'm a life long vol fan from middle tennessee. i've never been a member of a rival team's board, but my best friend IhateUT, who is a long time member of this site, said i should give you guys a try. just want you all to know i love to have conversation about the x's and o's of college football. not here to flame anyone, haha.

congrats to you guys on your successful season. i can only hope we hire a coach the caliber of saban the first time out of the gate. the rumor mill is working overtime in k-town right now, and i see it reaching a level of crazy i have never seen since following ut football.

what is the opinion in bama land of todays developments?

First, welcome!!!! We don't bite.....hard.

Second, I would love for the rivalry to become what it once was.....before all of the "put Bama out of business" mess that was the Phat one.

Welcome to Tide Fans. I hope you find it enjoyable and stick around for a while.

As far as most Tide Fan's opinions on the Fulmer developments go, you can find a couple of other threads already going on the subject to read. Just don't expect a whole lot of sympathy for your coach around here. We have a very different perspective on him and I will leave it at that.

Welcome Blue Spring Vol. I think this is good for both sides and the rivalry as a whole. I have always had respect for UT, but hate the phat one. Now we can go back to the good ole days.

Glad you came on, sir! I'll co-sign for this guy. He's good people!

I think you guys began a much needed change that the entire Bama Nation disagrees with. I'll be keeping a keen eye on this one. Jusy prepare yourself for the knocks on Fulmer.

A piece of advice that I hope your program does NOT take--go after Mark Mangino at Kansas, he will turn you guys around in no time. He took a perennial loser program in the Big 12 and had them in the Orange Bowl last year, is a Bob Stoops disciple, and like your own Philip Fulmer, salad ain't exactly his idea of a meal...if ya know what I mean...

Hello Blue - Welcome!

No love for Fulmer over here. Hopefully, over time, the Bama-Tenn rivalry can return to something more healthy and respectful now that Fulmer is gone. It'll take awhile, though.

Don't count on getting the right coaching hire the first shot out of the gate. Lots of schools can attest to that.

i agree about restoring the rivalry. i told IhateUT the other day that over the years i felt the rivalry has somewhat subsided. florida has pretty much taken the place of bama in most vol fans minds as the school they want to beat the most. i, for one, remember the days when you guys had our number back in the 80's and early 90's. those memories have not faded one bit in my mind, haha. i have a feeling in the next 2-3 years it will be a renewed, but respectful rivalry between these schools and fans that we haven't had in several years. i just hope we don't drop off the national map too long after the new coach is hired.

I feel for you Blue... I mean, in a rival-kind-of-way (which is complicated). The business with fulmer was also complicated so it's hard for me to hope you get anything less than a fran at this point. I really don't wish any crippling sanctions. A decent TN is good for the SEC and good for Bama. The vols need to take care of the ucla's of the world! Truth be told, I root for TN (and every SEC team) in almost every ooc game. There have been a few exceptions, but not many!

Um, I will say this- if fulmer sticks you guys anything like he did UA after he's out the door.... then I will really be able to find some room for empathy. Regardless, I'll have less trouble cheering on the vols with him gone.

Dang, I got off topic there! :) You know, fran may be available... But I think Cutcliffe would do well. You've got the athletes- you just need someone to step in with discipline and authority.

Fulmers demise came a few years early for my liking. I was looking forward to the beatings we would surely put on him the next few years. However, I have to admit, watching him go down in flames was enjoyable. It's also a good feeling to know that Alabama had a part in it.

This guy wanted to destroy the Alabama program. His only motive, in his inspector role, was to see the death of our football program. So it is very fitting that in tomorrows sports pages, the story of his demise will be printed right along side a BCS poll with Alabama sitting at the top.

Hearing that makes me so happy! Thank you for giving him the credit he deserves. Most rivals act as if he's no different from Shula.

Good luck on the new coaching search--just don't bring in one that can compete with Saban. lol

i agree that someone needs to step in with discipline and authority. fulmer has always been a players coach, and cutcliffe was the real disciplinarian when it came to the football field. i think that has shown now more than ever. i think cutcliffe would be ok as a head coach, but i would definitely want to exhaust all options of swinging for the fences before giving him a call. by fences i mean cowher, gruden etc. credible posters have confirmed cowher has been contacted, but nothing more. the gruden rumors are everywhere right now. i know we definitely wouldn't have any worry about discipline and accountability with either of those guys, but i don't think it is realistic that either of them will be named hc. gonna be a long month or two.

he's definitely different from shula. saban's "my way or the highway" attitude he takes with his players is really something cool to watch. what he has done with your team is incredible when you consider how young they are. it will be really interesting to see how they handle the pressure next weekend in baton rouge. if they can pass that test i think you will beat florida in the sec championship.

as for vol fans, we are starved for that type of attitude from a head coach. i have grown up watching fulmer as our hc, and it does sadden me to see him go. it is time, however, to have a change in the captain's chair. hopefully the "powers that be" in k-town will shell out the bucks for a proven winner like bama did. i have a feeling they will. it has been said money is no option.

Welcome to tidefans. We actually like a rival's point of view and respect those who earn ours in return. Hope you will hang around our site, we have several UT, LSU and others who drop by for a visit. Check out our other boards to see if we have any that interest you.

Funny that someone brought up Mangino. I just remembered 2 interesting points to his contract (unless it's been changed in the past year):
1. He has no buyout.
2. They pay for $2 million in life insurance and have the option to buy another $2 million in insurance of which the University is named the beneficiary. I think my brother (KU grad) was saying that the second policy was to help pay for the coaching search/transition in the event anything were to happen to him.

I'm not familiar with his recruiting prowess but he's definitely great at coaching character and attitude which is what Tennessee needs desperately right now.
