Help i got a virus

LOL. Apparently her new sources didn't cover it when 15 million Facebook accounts got hacked.

Most of the time I won't even click a link from people I know.

Heh. She, like most people over 50, still relies on the 6 O'Clock news for most/all of her news coverage.

Oh, and that's another funny thing about baby-boomers. They'll see a news article online and say "you can't believe everything you read" and treat it like a tabloid article. At the same time, they'll believe anything in an email their friends forward them and anything that's on the 6 O'Clock news. :)

LOL my parents fall into that category.

I get email forwards from my mom all the time. Maybe one about someone's kid being kidnapped and there is a pic in the email or something. I usually just reply back with a link the snopes.com. They really seem to like the urban legend stuff.

My dad got an email saying to "click here" to review your FTD.com bill of $100. He hadn't purchase flowers from FTD but panicked and clicked the link. Needless to say I racked up some family tech support hours on that trying to fix his computer.

I'm assuming the OP has Windows as their OS
If so, reboot and press f8 or f12 and log into safe mode with networking
download AVG and Malwarebytes
update both
run full scan of each
reboot into normal OS mode
should work

that said, I've been rocking Ubuntu for 6 months now (have no AV) and have never gotten a virus
