Question: Help with bolt dimensions

I recently moved into a new house with my wife, and the person that put our bed together didn't tighten the nut on the leveling feet up to where they screwed into the bed frame. Well now 2 of the 3 leveling feet are bent over after sleeping on it for a few weeks without it being put together right.

I can't seem to find any replacements online that are the same bolt without being a swivel type, and I just want to make sure I am getting the right measurements on this thing because I need a fixed type.

I measured the diameter of one of the threads, and I got 5/8" with 18 threads per inch (5/8-18). Was I supposed to measure the diameter from the threads or from the "valleys" between the threads?

I was also wondering if I bought one with a different thread per inch count, would that fit in the opening on the bed? i.e would a 5/8" diameter bolt with 11 threads per inch fit?

Can anyone help me out with this?

Find a hardware store. Try your part in nuts until you find the one that fits. Make a note of the size. Thread count needs to be the same. Saint Louis should have some good ole timey hardware stores.

Where did the bed come from? Is there any possibility that it's a metric 14mm instead of 5/8"? The only way I know to really measure the pitch correctly is with a pitch gauge. Unfortunately, there is a different one for each SAE and metric. They are available on Amazon for less than $10. It's the only way to know if you're really matching threads. If you don't match them, then the bed frame could be ruined, if you cross-thread bolts into the holes...

It could be metric.....(as it seems everything now is).....but 14mm is just a lil smaller than 9/16". If he's measuring 5/8", the almost identical metric equivalent is 16mm.....15mm is in between......but the only true way to know is to take it to a store and measure the thread pitch and size........

You're right; it's 16. I had an odd 14mm size pop up in the last couple of days and it stuck in my head. I finally bought both pitch gauges. I think you can buy them now metric on one end and SAE on the other. Out of all the possible pitches, there are generally only a few really used...

Thanks all. I made it all a little too difficult by trying to find my own online. We called the store, and they sell packs of them for $9, so we bought two just in case. I honestly didn't think they would offer them.
