Herb Winches interviewed on Matt Murphy Show

Herb has always been horrible!

Scott Griffin is a buffoon on his best day! His idea of an interview is to state his opinion and then ask his guest if they agree. :rolleye2:

you guys are too rough on herb. He isnt Bad...

But I wished they would get kelly hunter off the radio, I am tired of her interupting people during their talk, and then she will tell them what they just said and act like she was the first to say it.

Randy and Lee was a darn good show, I miss it.

Glad to have Scott and Matt back on.

I like Dunnaway and Brown..its good.

Get rid of Lance Taylor, that guy thinks he has the pulse of sports, but he has the pulse of a corpse. ALways interviewing some no name no one cares about or talking about NBA/WNBA... At least talk about something local, I like local shows...not some Jim Rome wanna be.

Are there any decent stations on Sirius that do a lot of SEC football stuff? especially between noon & 6 pm and between midnite and 6 am. I work out of state and these are the hours I work so I can't get any local stuff.

I think Herbie worked at Channel 6 in B'ham not 13. He was on at the same time with Joe Langston and Tom York wasn't he? FWIW...I heard Finebaum just got a huge contract where he was at.

Glad to hear it's not just me not getting a good signal on 100.5. I can get it in my car with crackling in the background, but at work it's hopeless. I'm trying to figure out why they moved to FM, only to have a weakened signal. Without the internet streaming I haven't heard D & B in several days. Very good show though.

I understand Winches frustration. But hey, in this business it's all about ratings. He, of all people, should know that.

As for Finebaum, apparently his move is still up in the air. I personally hope he stays at WERC. Unless he can go to an FM station. One that we can actually hear!

Not a fan of his radio or his driving skills. Arrogant on the air and on the road. Herb almost side swiped me in his BMW convertible when he came around a turn on two wheels at the Hoover Met during the SEC baseball tournament. Jerk.

I believe you're correct...I was thinking channel 6 (abc) too. I grew up in Jasper and watched HW do sports and actually kind of liked him. That was before the days of cable and talk radio. Back in those days, he just reported the news and showed the highlights.

I could stomach Herb.

Kelly Hunter is too rude and sarcastic. I guess Ray is OK.

I like Jay and Al.

D & B rocks and I hope they stick around even if it's a shorter show.

Doug Bell is Brenda Ladun's hubby and had a sports show w/ Scott Moore then Lee Davis on 101.1.

I dig the FM due to the a.m power down for six months of the year.

PF coming to FM would be cool.

I would like to see the FM and AM have the same shows which would be an all-star lineup after they've had some time to measure interest.

Rome and Cowherd just don't appeal with their constant bashing of somebody or something.

LT and the roundtable is OK as a breakup of the schedule if it stays short.

Tidefans rocks.

Roll Tide

F4B out!

I remember that show. I really liked Lee Davis. Isn't Doug Bell the husband of Brenda Ladunn over at ABC 33/40? If he's the same guy, then I liked him too.

Back when 101.1 The Source FM first came on the air, they had a sports show in the afternoon which was Doug Bell with Lee Davis as the producer. Then, Bell left and Lee Davis took over; but, eventually the station went to all-news/political talk.

I think you and I are in agreement on many things. Matt Coulter was good and I miss his show 'Middays with Matt". (I dont get the am channel here.) Dunaway & Brown are the best imo! but i could-not-stand Kelly Hunter for the reasons you cited. She's the biggest know-it-all of the bunch and was quick to ridicule or demean callers. Thank GOD....she went to the am channel.

But Herb? I didnt have a problem with Herb. He was ok in my book. Good radio voice and while I didnt always agree with him, i can think of several times when he'd try to be voice of reason after Kelly went on some 'Bama fans are living in the past' tirade.

I don't blame Herb for being upset. He was apparently pushed out the door after having pretty much started WJOX and sports radio in Bham. His contributions to the station should count for something imo. To me, he could have been paired with another voice (even Melleck was ok), and his show and Dunaway's could have been the plowhorses for 100.5FM. Heck, even having Finebaum and Herb on back-to-back programs would have been better than trying to push Herb to an am channel that hardly anyone 60 miles away from Bham can hear!

The program directors really dropped the ball on this imo and I'll miss ol Herb.

:(

That show started with Scott Moore. Doug Bell was later teamed with Moore. Moore was then fired (throwing a hissy fit all over the station) and Bell went it alone until he was later fired when 101.1 decided to go all newstalk with no sports. Lee was the producer, but never on the air doing sports because of a previous contract with JOX. Lee later had a newstalk show on 101.1. Most recently taking over for a fired (THANK YOU, GOD!) Russ and Dumb Fine, before a Gainsville pair called the "Attack Machine" took over morning drive.

I don't recall seeing this mentioned in a previous post, but if I did overlooked it, I can blame it on tired eyes. :biggrin2: Anyway, just before going to JOX, Jay Barker was on the show with Scott Moore. Then, of course, Doug Bell later joined the show with Scott. IMO, I've always thought the show was at it's best when Jay and Scott were on there together.
