He really he doesn't but:

Has anyone noticed since Coach Tubby accused Kirk and his comrades at ESPN of being biased, he has been plugging the Tigers?

1. Kenny Irons is the best rb in the SEC
2. Auburn is the most deserving team to left out of the BCS bowl choices
3. Al Borges should win the best assistant coach award.
4. Auburn is playing the best football now

Maybe CMS needs to call in to the Dan Patrick show next year and gripe about something accusing ESPN of negativity so we can get some love.

RTR!

1. Well, Irons does average the most ypg in the SEC. If he's going by that measure, Kenny may very well be the best. Personally, I think that kid at Arkansas is, and I think KD has done more with less. (Though Mike Ford may blow them all out of the water)

2. The most deserving left out? Nah, I think that's Oregon. Can't argue with 10-1.

3. Al? Well, if you think that AU's offense had nothing after that incredible backfield graduated, then sure. But you can't make this arguement if you insist on point #1 (meaning Kirk can't, I mean)

4. Possibly, but I doubt they could beat USC, Texas, or Penn State... and probably not ND, Oregon, or OSU.

whether irons is the best is arguable, and kines might be as deserving as borges, but auburn has been the best SEC team for the past two years. and as much as i hate to admit it, it's clear that tubby is a good coach and a good recruiter. it's going to take a maximum effort for us to get the upper hand on auburn over the next few years.

i think herbstreit's simply calling it like he sees it.

If Auburn was the best they would be playing in the Sugar Bowl. Sorry, but to be the best in the SEC you have to win your division. Auburn did not. Congrats to Georgia.

Auburn sure put up a better fight against Georgia than LSU did.

Look, Auburn didn't even win its division.

Auburn went 1-7 in the SEC in 1998, Terry Bowden's last year. They fired Bowden, promised the job to Brother Bill Oliver, then went out and hired the coach of the only SEC team they beat that year.

He beat Alabama for the very first time in 2000. Before that, as an assistant and head coach, he was 0-6.

Auburn has been the primary and direct beneficiary of Alabama's NCAA sanctions. Everyone we would have signed, they signed instead. LSU got a couple. Tennessee got a few. But Auburn got Carnell Williams, Brandon Cox and Ben Obomanu. But for the NCAA, those players would be wearing Crimson.

Auburn's recent run of success has correlated exactly with our NCAA probation. They were second banana before it, they will be second banana after it. What's happened in the meantime is but an aberration. Even a blind hawg finds a corncob every now and then.

Tub's such a good coach that even when its fiercest rival had suffered its first 9-loss season in half a century, his string-pullers boarded a plane and offered his job to a former assistant of his.

You can never become a top tiered program when you crow about a short winning streak against a crippled rival. It's like walking up to a man on crutches, kicking one out from underneath him, and then thumping your chest over it.

We measure success with championships. They measure success over whether they beat us or not. They're pathetic, and so is their head coach.

Great post.

I agree that Kirk is a fan of the SEC and has had good things to say about Alabama and the other teams. Whether we like it or not the facts are out there, after watching Georgia/LSU it is obvious that LSU has been living on the edge and should have lost to Alabama and Auburn. Had we squeezed by LSU I still think the outcome of the Auburn game would have been the same. Auburn did beat Georgia in Athens and I feel they would have beaten them again in the title game. I believe Kirk's assessment of Auburn is correct, at this point, they are the best team in the SEC (I am typing this with clenched teeth). Whether it is Tubs, or Borgis or the new DC, they are a balanced team who are playing at a high level. I agree with the earlier comment, probably the McFadden kid from Arkansas is the best running back in the conference with Irons and Darby a close second. These are my opionions only. We still have a bowl game left to end the season on a high note. We have to take our "A" game to Dallas, because Texas Tech can light up the scoreboard and, again my opinion, the best way to beat them is to keep their offense off the field with a ground pounding, eat up the clock offense.

Some of Kirk's comments were accurate, but what bothered me was Saturday when he said that Auburn was the best team in the SEC and pretty much said that they should be playing Georgia instead of LSU. Lee just said "Who won the LSU Auburn game?" Kirk kind of backed down after that.

Granted, Auburn very well may have played a better game against Georgia, but they did not win against LSU. 'Nuff said.

to win the championship you have to win the division. but the team that wins the division is not always the best team in the division and the team that wins the championship is not always the best team in the league.

fsu won the acc championship game, but it was pretty clear from this season that they were not, and still are not, the best team in the acc. they won a very weak division and put together a great game in the final. but they were not and are not the best team in the acc. furthermore, the sec west was much stronger than the sec east this year. lsu, bama, or auburn probably would have won that division had they been placed in that division 12 years ago. but they weren't, and as a result, #1 in the east equals out to #3 in the west.

bottom line is, the best overall teams don't always win the championship. and if i had to bet money day in and day out at this point, my money would be on auburn.

i hate auburn with a passion, but i can't let that hatred affect my objectivity and blind me to reality. i think auburn has been the best team in the sec over the last two seasons.

and i think herbstreit was simply stating what he thinks to be true.

it is pretty funny to me, however, that auburn last year put together a stellar season and followed it with a very good season, and they really don't have much to show for it. that makes me feel all fuzzy inside. in fact, knowing they've fielded the best team over the last two years only to get snubbed in more ways than one is quite amusing to me as a bama fan. even when the barn succeeds the barn fails. too funny!!!

If that's the case then we need to do away with all the championship games. Actually, it's all opinion based if you think about it. Everyone says let's have a plus one system to determine the national champion. Actually, that's what you need to do in the conference. Do away with the divisions and let the top two teams play in the championship. But, to do that you have to play everyone in the conference, which is possible with twelve teams. With everyone going to a twelve game schedule, you can pick up one out of conference game. Anyway, according to the system we currently play under, Georgia is the best team in the conference.

This is a flawed argument. The scoreboard always says who was the better team that day, and no matter how good Auburn thinks they are, they were not better than LSU that day. Ergo, they are not the best team in the SEC. They are not even the best team in the SEC West. LSU proved that on the field.

I believe your passionate dislike of all things orange and blue. However, the game of football is played, won and lost on the field. You play the games and on any given Saturday, anyone in this league can sneak up on anyone else in this league. Ole Miss almost snuck up on us. Carolina almost snuck up on the eventual SEC Champ Georgia. In fact, Carolina was one field goal away from playing last Saturday for the Title! But at the end of the day, the scoreboard still tells who's best. You can't be any more objective or realistic than using the scoreboard. It is the ultimate standard and every team is judged by it.

For some reason, I take the same perverse pleasure in this that you do. This could only happen to Auburn. No one else drags the dark cloud around with them the way they do. They had one chance to step out of big brother's shadow and stake a claim to greatness. And they were cheerfully ignored.

Muhahaha....

auburn is the best in the west right now. and they are about even w/ ga.

No. The best in the west is LSU. If Auburn were the best, they would have been playing last Saturday. Period. Georgia is the best in the SEC because the beat LSU last Saturday. Period. That's why we have divsions to win and a championship game to play. The season is 11 games, not 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, etc. Sure, they may be playing better football now, but it's "Tuberville-ish" to say "if it weren't for the Ga Tech game and the LSU game..." My favorite saying: If "if's" and "but's" were candy and nuts, then we'd all have a Merry Christmas.

I wish some of you guys would quit being Auburn apologists. You want to play the "what if" game? Well, "if" Auburn would have played Georgia last Saturday in the SECCG, it's very possible that UGA would have put a whipping on them, too. They would have, at the very least, beaten them. "But", they didn't.

Why?

Because five "DOINK'S" and a "keep it down home, cuz" against LSU kept them out of it. It's part of the 11 game schedule.

Again, I don't want to hear "Well, they would beat them, now." They had their chance...and, blew it.

The better team doesn't always win. just like the fastest car doesn't always win the race. w/ your logic the patriots were not the best team in the nfl last year because they lost to miami who were a crappy team.
