Hmm... Do we now have a QB controversy?

Only at Alabama does QB1 go 17 for 17, 3 TDs, 0 ints and lead the team to a shutout while scoring more than we have in over 50 years and we have a "QB controversy"...... We were looking for a coaching replacement last week, let's give it a rest. Wow, we can be a tough bunch to please....

From my view last night in the stands, KR looked to be the better option for QB2. His passes in the game and in warmups looked better. Mack seems to throw low and lack touch when needed. He missed a wide open TD down the sideline that should be an easy pass at that level. Just my opinion.

Agree. I saw the same thing last night from my couch with my arm elbow deep in a bag of Zapps. Looked like Mack has a howitzer, but KR understands how to get someone open with his legs or throwing. Glad we have both, though.

I do not think so. Ty looked quite comfortable last night. We will know more after the next two games. Either way, KR needs to add some weight to his frame if he can, especially with our sometimes sketchy tackle play. I wouldn‘t like to see UGA or OU’s defense getting to tee off on him. I am concerned enough about Simpson.

I hope to see both backup QBs get reps throughout the season as much as possible.
I remember Tua playing as a backup when he was freshman, having his moments, even holding for field goals, then at the end of the year he wasn’t so much of a freshman anymore. 2d and 26 happened.
That’s a great point. If the entire team is hitting on all cylinders, it opens up opportunity for other guys to get playtime, with those big leads good play opens up. Tua was the beneficiary of defenses that could get off the field on 3rd down. In this day and age of portal, guys just won’t hang around if they don’t get play time. Alabama is a program, I’m proud to say, that ought to be mashing lesser opponents like they did on Saturday, this more play time for the guys who are next up!

I wouldn't say there's a QB controversy, but what I would say is none of the QB's (especially Ty) can get comfortable in their position. During the game it was revealed that DeBoer and Grubb decided to "put some competition" into the QB position and basically told Ty during the week that they were going to let Austin Mack have some reps during the first half. Apparently, the purpose was to set a fire under Ty to let him know that just because he's the starter today, it doesn't mean it's his for the rest of the season. It worked and all three qB's ended up getting quality playing time and throwing multiple touchdowns.

My question is, why wasn't this done last season? If this were done last season we may not have lost four games... but I digress. I'm not going to delve back into last season. What's done is done.

What bothers me the most though is the obsession with the QB3 and negatively judging Ty against someone else’s ceiling of potential.

Some are going to be real upset I guess if Ty comes back another year and keeps the job.
I wondered why you responded to one of my posts when I commented about Russell with a "key-board-smash" but now I know.

In no way am I saying he's better than Ty nor is he more prepared. As a matter of fact, I still think Ty is good enough to put up the numbers to make him attractive for the draft. It's not that I'm rooting for him to be gone but to be good!

The point I was making about Russell is how smooth and quick his reactions are. Bringing Ty into the discussion is just natural because he's the competition for both Mack and Russell. While Ty is a gifted athlete he's movements, compared to Russell's, is less syrupy smooth. That's all I was saying.

I don't understand why this is an issue. If it's not warranted, I guess Earle shouldn't have started this thread, so you might need to take that up with him.

We've actually got a great problem. It reminds me a little of our QB room when we had Jalen, Tua and Mac. Three QBs who all have distinct abilities that make them attractive in different ways. I think that's what this thread is showing.

I think it's further proof that last year CKD's hands were "tied" with some arrangements/agreements that were probably made to hold the team together in the transition.

I don't know if the truth will ever come out.

Since QB size has come up in this discussion, I'm watching the Pathers/Jaquars and Bryce is really struggling again.

He's a magician, as he proved at Bama, but I really believe his stature will keep him from being truly elite at this level.

I do think the ideal QB has changed to be much more dual threat than ever before, but just imagine if Bryce had all these elite characteristics but was 6'4" instead of 5'10"???

that was how I took it and I definitely think there is a controversy for the 2 spot.
TS has won the starting job and will hold onto it unless he completely falls apart (not likely) or gets injured.

I'm gonna say no controversy for QB2 just because I think they want to preserve a Redshirt for KR.
