LSU Players= Its all about ME

Bama Players= Its all about the TEAM

When so many individual players think that They are the reason their team is SOOOOOOO good it eventually catches up with you. Guess what......... It did on Monday night. RTR!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't really dislike HB. He seemed like a pretty respectful guy during the Heisman stuff. Was complimentary of Trent. He's an exciting player to watch. I worried about him Monday night. Who among us didn't cringe that play when he was in the backfield and Trent made a good block to push him behind AJ as McCarron stepped up in the pocket. I agree he's undisciplied as a cover corner, and I did not like the play against Dre on 11/5. But Dre says he had no problem with it. I, too, thought HB played pretty hard and played pretty well in the BCSNCG. He made some plays, but we also made some plays against him. Overall I was pleased that he really didn't make any of the big plays he's known for in either game against Bama.

I do not harbor any special dislike for him.

after AJ kept dropping passes in on him, his new nickname is 'toast'- Jim Rome. I do agree he has a nose for the football, has good instincts, but lacks technique as a cover corner and is very undisciplined. if he was bigger, he would be a good safety like Palamalou? of the Steelers. He doesn't have Troy's size though.

For what it's worth, what I liked about the slow-mo replays is how often they showed TM in near perfect position and how often the ball came in high, to a taller receiver, with Mathieu having no chance to defend it. Mathieu's instincts are extraordinary, but our game plan and execution against him was uncanny.

I'll give him this - after the game, he was the only leader on that team who had remained positive. His comments were all positive and forward looking. I didn't like what he did to Dre any more than any other Bama fan, but I am not sure that he is the person that most have made him out to be. To me, he just looks like a fierce competitor.

Clearly the staff thought he could be exploited, and he was. An accurate passer can throw high and keep the ball out of his reach...that seemed to be the game plan. It seems that Bama was not intimidated by his reputation as many teams are, and when you don't fear that player you can attack that player.

why any team would "fear" a player like TM is beyond me; account for him on every play, sure; exploit his weaknesses (several), absolutely; but fear a small cb with average cove skills? I don't know why....

Yep. I'm no fan of the HB and tremendously enjoyed seeing him repeatedly beaten, but in a lot of the cases he really wasn't in bad position - just too short.

I listened to the post-game show on the radio and they interviewed Coach Smart. He said that after playing LSU the first time, the staff noticed that TM was not a very good cover corner at all. So, they knew that if they could get him in man coverage, they could throw on him all night long. He said TM is only really dangerous in space in a zone or when they go Nickel and blitz him. AJ and TR did a great job reading the defense and noticing where TM was and what the coverage would be.

I watched Honey Bunny's performance in both games.

What I noticed:
-He's an average-at-best coverage corner and is often beaten thoroughly by fast wide receivers
-He likes to hit, but not to be hit. He tends to shy away from contact.
-He talks trash both during and after every play
-If the offensive line picks up his blitz at all, he will never beat a block
-He has two returning TD's all season, he had ten yards separation on both plays. If the coverage arrives within three seconds of him fielding the punt, he's finished.
-He likes to arm tackle
-He's undersized
-He has speed and a nose for the football, but his desire to make a big play often leaves receivers with extra space

All in all I get the feeling that, if not for his nickname and his fumble recoveries against Oregon and a slew of bad teams, we wouldn't hear any talk about him from the media or LSU fans. He's an athlete, not a cornerback, and he has no place starting on defense in the SEC. He was exposed this Monday.
