How Other Teams are Defending Alabama in 2025

Based on what I've seen the last few weeks it appears teams have figured out how to defend us. What they are doing is playing very aggressively on defending the wide receivers by being extremely physical and knocking guys off routes. Ty's inaccuracies, IMO, are because the receivers are not in the spot they are supposed to be. Our passing attacked relies on receivers being where they are supposed to be and Ty throwing before they have made their moves to get open. I went back and watched the game again, paying special attention to that, and almost all the incompletions the receiver had been hit pretty hard getting of the line of scrimmage. How do we fix that?

Ty made three or four really bad throws yesterday. Other than that I think the pressure was the problem for him. Same thing in the FS game. Considering the record this team has probably played over their heads. They cannot put teams away after they get control of the game. Yesterday with all the mess ups they took the lead and could not hold it. Did not score in the second half against Georgia. Took control of the Vandy, Mizzou and Tennessee game (closer than the score) and barely hung on. Don't know how they beat South Carolina. The team is not physical enough (which is on the coaches). Note OU came on late defensively with a physical effort. They may beat Auburn, but wonder if they have a shot at the likely opponent of either Georgia or Texas A&M. Looks like A&M after their big come back yesterday. Georgia would destroy this team right now.

I think most of it is that we don’t have the personnel… or use the personnel capable to present a balanced attack. Yet we are forcing something that clearly isn’t there.

Good news that we put 400 yards on the last truly elite defense that we will face in the next 3 weeks. The bad news is we will playing a good defensive unit in JHS in two weeks and will probably have to score 40 to beat TAMU if they are clicking to run the table.

I think we are more than capable of running the table but these dumb self inflicted mistakes have to stop

Ty's biggest issue IMHO is that he sometimes holds on to the ball too long instead of just taking off and running or throw it away.
For the record i think he has come in and done an amazing job with his first full season starting. If we had a Oline that could keep him upright we are killing OU.

CKD, Shepherd and Grubb best figure out something in terms of getting releases by receivers off the LOS. OU didn’t just jam them and knock them off routes. They mugged them. It’s the reason Cuevas was successful early. Then late, when he needed him, only place you could look for him was on back of milk carton. Completely missing.

And yes, Ty has got to do better with ball protection, getting rid of it, or taking what he can get with his feet.

You can almost take it to the bank that Durkin will employ a similar approach in two weeks.

We didnt really try to off balance their pass rush....Ty was almost always in a straight drop back so they knew where he was...he moved some but it would have been nice to see some planned roll outs, a few more RPO's, jet sweeps and quick hitches...for an offensive genius Grubb seems to be very set in his ways. We have scored 70 less points in the second half than in the first half...so we are not adjusting to what we see from the defense either.

Grubb is anything but an offensive genius. he seems arrogant and set in his way. his inconsistency is why the offense seems lifeless in the 2nd half late in the season.
Seattle fires him and they're currently in 1st place in their division and one of the best records in the NFL at the moment.

And he’ll have had 3 weeks, or more I’d suspect, to scheme, tweak and employ that approach. O-line play and QB protection has to improve or it’s gonna be yet another stressful game to watch. Sadly enough that’s what I’ve grown to expect now.
I kinda miss joyless murder ball.

Until we have better blocking from the OL, joyless murder ball is nonexistent. The good news is he's getting his players in his system from the last two cycles. We have to be patient just a bit longer

Great summation of what’s going on. Our strategy from the first month of wins is now found out. Throw off the receiver routes, pressure the QB. Mission accomplished.

And this is what happens when there is no threat to run the ball. Milroe was that threat last season: we lacked a back of threat capability just like this season.

Here’s what these coaches new to the conference must figure out. A varied passing attack works on the West coast or against a schedule full of chump teams. That does not work in the SEC. You must keep defenses honest by making them account for throwing and running.

I think the OL is the primary issue.

Followed by the fact that least effective group of RBs I’ve seen in watching Bama football over 40 years. Dad and I started watching and listening to every game when I was 12… even Murry Hill in 1988 was more effective than these guys!
Exactly, OL can't run block, can't pass block. RB stable is at what seems an all time low, but an improved OL would even help that. At least we have stopped most of the Illegal motion penalties. NIL $$$ need a big focus on OL. With the "supposed talent" we have, it seems we are in desperate need of a OL coach. You can gripe on the OC, the QB and the receivers but until the OL improves you will always be gripping.

Meh, as I have stated on the other threads, it not a case of others figuring us out, rather, it is us tripping ourselves up due to the brutality of our schedule. Ty was making the plays earlier in the season but he has been beaten up, as has the rest of the team, especially on offense. Thank goodness for the D but still, the teams strength has been on offense. Not sure we can get back to mid season form after the gauntlet of games we just went through. Proud of our guys regardless.

I don't think things are as bad as some. Our defense held a very good OU offense to one offensive touchdown and that was with a short field, I think from a turnover. Their other touchdown was a pick six. The first OU chip shot field goal was the result of a big punt return. The OU kicker also hit a 50+ yard field goal. Meanwhile, our offense scored or earned 3 touchdowns and missed a field goal attempt at the end of the first half. And with the turnovers and sloppy offense, we still had the opportunity to win the game with less than a minute left with the football and driving. OU had a good defensive scheme, and it rattled Ty. He had happy feet in the pocket and didn't look like he was setting his feet on throws. It took our worst game since FSU for the #11 team in the country to squeeze out the win. I'm not crazy about the loss, but IMO, we gave that game away.

Concur with “straight drop back….”. Would have loved to see a moving, roll out pocket scheme or two. If Ty can find #80 like he did yesterday in straight drop back, have to believe he could have found him, others a few more times. Might have extended a few drives. RTR

They started doing that in the USCe game in the 4th quarter, not sure why they dont use that more.

It is his first full year of the grind, and it’s been pretty good so far.

 It was pretty much Oklahoma rushing more bodies than we had blockers. We also really struggled with both RBs in how they handled pass protection. At times it was also the play called for down and distance. We can’t be so predictable
You would think pass protection would be a priority in our offense...

Not sure, but if the refs would call holding on the other team every once in a while , it would help. Our WR's get held ALOT and it isn't called.
