I still think we got the right guy (Coach DeBoer)

Oh I agree, but surely he is not so pretentious that he cannot accept a little romanization on minor things.

In fact, I read somewhere and use it as part of my management style that if you reinforce the minor things its much easier to get buyin on the tougher issues. And it really works. In my experience, people will self-adopt the tougher things. The thinking being if he is going stress these minor things then I dont want to be on the wrong side of the bigger demands...

That is, well, not near the top of my priorities for the coach at Alabama. I personally do not care if he wears a loin cloth and a light coat of oil if his team plays with ferocity and discipline and dominates and strikes fear into the hearts of opponents.
Sure, a collared shirt is not a big ask, but I can literally think of 100 things that are way more important to me than what the coach wears. Maybe 1,000 things.

I can give you 87,000,000 reasons he shouldn't receive a Nobel Peace prize for accepting the job. He made a choice that would have been easy for a lot of coaches.
I completely disagree. It’s easy to follow the greatest coach of all time at a program with incredibly high standards in an ultra competitive conference??

There's a difference in taking a job because the work to be successful is easy and the pay makes it easy to calculate the risk/reward opportunity.

To be honest, I will be really happy with the hire if we just see 2nd Half Adjustments at any point in those final 2 quarters of any of the ballgames. I think the worst thing to happen to this particular group was the 1st half curb stomping of the Bulldogs. They should cut off the access the DC and OC have to the press, and definitely don't let a mic get put in front of a freshman that see's the field after a ballgame. Those are just commonsense guidelines any head coach should utilize.

Where ever there's BBQ, Bourbon & Football
Saban today on the McAfee show opened up about Alabama, Kalen DeBoer and the coaching transition.

"Alabama doesn't have much patience. They have high expectations. We'd get criticized just for losing one game. Kalen is going to have to ignore all of that, get his guys in there, do things his way and he'll be fine. He's a very good coach and he's going to win. But he's going to have to ignore all the outside noise that will come. That's how we did it when we were there. I just ignored it all, kept my head down and kept doing the things I knew would ultimately win games. I think he'll be fine he just needs to ignore all the outside noise."

Addition:
He also said the team lost more talent via the transfer portal than they replaced. He said we lost approximately 26 players when he retired and though we brought in some players it wasn't equal to what we lost. He said you don't hear a lot of that talked about.

You can tell he really believes CKD is the right guy and thinks he'll get Alabama back rolling.

Sorry to disappoint you but this attire has already been earmarked by Hugh Freeze for games when he is running late from his standard massage parlor trip on game day. You know, to relieve the “pre game stress”.

Darn it! I was kind of looking forward to the amazement of fans and critics when Alabama played with ferocity and discipline and dominates and strikes fear into the hearts of opponents, with Coach DeBoer on the sidelines sporting a loin cloth and a light coat of oil. If you get the first part right (his team plays with ferocity and discipline and dominates and strikes fear into the hearts of opponents), then most folks would get used to the loin cloth..

yep, he is a PE teacher in DeKalb County. I googled it. He coaches the junior high basketball team.
Possibly mentioned and I missed, but doesn't JP have a show cause until 2029? He is a toxic asset until 2030 and who knows what the situation will be then. He had great defenses, but we have to move on from him.

Anybody talking seriously about getting rid of Coach DeBoer is insane. As insane as someone saying in all seriousness Bama should have hired Elvis Presley to coach football. If someone said that, you would say to yourself, "This guy is loony. Never listen to anything he says."

I am not impressed with this defense's ability to get off the field on 3rd down.* I am not impressed with the team's loss of composure at times. I'm not impressed with the team self-discipline at times. I'm not impressed with this team's ability to sustain offensive drives.

I am light years away from being ready to pull the plug on Coach Deboer. If he has a couple of losing seasons, then we can talk replacement. Until then, Bama fans need to relax a bit.

* Pate says Alabama's defense is 120th in the nation in "plays run against."
I mean... My father was a charter member of the RTDB club and I inherited his mantle... So...

But yes. Our offense has been detrimental to our defense with lack of TOP, lots of 3 and outs, and the yardage from the RB position has been anemic. I love Jalen as a runner, but nothing replaces the good steady grind of the RBs pounding the rock to support your defense, wear out the opposing defense, and just demoralize the other team when you own the LOS. Even if you are a passing team, you need the ability to pound the rock.

Vandy had a 42 to 18 minute advantage in TOP. Unless you have two players ready to roll at every defensive position, you are gonna be gassed at half time with those numbers!

From my perspective it is very reasonable to ask a coach, particularly one paid at this level, to dress professionally and be in shape physically. How a person disciplines themselves is reflected in their work. I believe that is a given.

For me, the years of DuBose, Franchione, Price, Shula are painful in my memory. Young(-ish) fans who have known nothing but the glories of the Saban years may be ready to get back on the "new coach rollercoaster," (1. New guy comes in, 2. everyone is optimistic saying "this guy is going to right the ship," 3. he runs into difficulty, 4. all is despair, 5. Bama let's him go or he quits, 1. new comes to town, ... etc., etc., etc.) but I am not. I will give Coach DeBoer a chance until he gets his coaches and his players in place playing the way he wants.

Tennessee spent a decade and a half on the "new coach rollercoaster" before Heupel seems to have righted the ship up there. It was fun to watch, but I do not want Alabama to go through that again.
Patience is the order of the day.

I only have 3 somewhat positive memories from the time period you bring up.

‘99 when we beat Spurrier Twice and won the SEC Championship.

The ‘01 Iron Bowl where we were pretty big underdogs and just ran the ball all over them in an upset.

The ‘05 win vs Fla though it’s a bit stained for losing Prothro. Still a good season where we finished in the Top 10

That’s all I have though… the rest was pure misery.

I’m grateful for the perspective though I suppose and am more prepared for hardships than younger fans who only know CNS’s Bama.

I think we made the right choice and the best choice available with CKD.

I love his full offense and if we can get the defensive issues solved we’ll be in the running for the Playoffs more years than not.
