If McCarron starts next season; we will have to live with INTs

AJ McCarron is no doubt talented. He has a cannon for an arm and seems to be pretty accurate. I think the biggest area he differs from McElroy in, is he will not over analyze situations. I think he sometimes will not even analyze a situation, when maybe he should. I foresee MANY more big pass plays with him at the helm, but also MANY more interceptions. I think where McElroy currently thinks "what if" and "it might get picked" McCarron will be more "we practiced it all week, I am going for it". Saban will probably keep a tight leash, at first, limiting some of that. BUT, if a QBs strengths include that "gunslinger" nature, how short of a leash can you have without "choking" him and taking him out of his element? Think Favre, think Stafford. Exciting and frustrating are the words that come to mind.

Good point. I was wondering, earlier, what application the speedsters we are targeting would be used in. More speed in the slot? Convert some over to add speed to the defense? Do you see them as maybe a Precy Harvin type? If you have a weapon like that, it would definitely open the downfield attack, thus opening the run game.

No doubt the WR core is loaded with speed. That will help whoever the 2011 QB is. Something that SHOULD help is a good OL. Hopefully the OL next year does better than this year helping the RBs some lanes to run through and help with the play action.

Any time you have an underclassman take over at QB, you can expect more mistakes. AJ will be a RS sophomore and PS will be a RS Freshman.

I think CNS will also have more faith in the chances he can take based on the strentgh of his defense which should be pretty solid next year.

What speed demons are you referring to (assuming some go pro)? Obviously if Julio stays that's the dream scenario for him, AJ and us fans. Are you talking about current starters or those names like White (WR from Texas who took a redshirt), Corey Grant in the slot, Malone (kid from Tennessee)???

There is no doubt we'll have more mistakes. Greg is a very smart QB and came from a top flight HS program in Southlake. I'm sure the coaches will ease him into the situation by doing short throws, etc. until the coaches are confident in him to stretch the field. DeAndrew White is supposedly the fastest guy on the team right now and he'll be a good receiver next year. I'm hoping we get special teams doing better next year. Seems this year with the loss of Javier we had no real punch there with Julio doing the returns. And hopefully the offensive line will do much better.

Greg will be missed though. AJ has more upside than Greg and Philip Sims as well. But I see that upside being realized over the next 2 to 3 years vs. say next year. So yes......expect some mistakes next year. Getting more reps though will help the new QB.

I have to think AJ will start next year since he has some game experience but we'll see. That will be a good competition. I'm sure Ely will be a red shirt. I certainly do not see him competing against AJ or Sims for sure.

I think we're just hoping and hopefully assuming that this group will be stronger next year. I know you can't assume anything, but I can't see Coach Saban not taking a very long hard look at the O-line problems this season and not regrouping, rewriting, replacing, re-something. It has and always will begin in the trenches especially at a program like Alabama. We've never been nor will ever be about the flash. It's all back to fundamentals.

We hold these truths to be self-evident...

I think it's safe to say that anytime you have a rookie QB, they will make more mistakes. Couple that with the likelihood that AJ brings a more pass-friendly offensive dimension, and I think it's clear that the *potential* for more INT's are there. Certainly Greg is an extremely analytical QB and we'll miss that, but let's also consider that AJ brings his own strengths to the game. And, of course, I think that Sims will challenge him for the job this spring.

Of course, we also need to shore up the O-line in order to make a more pass-aggressive offense really work. It's been really porous this season.

Why do people keep posting that Sims is so much more mobile than McCarron. They are both prostyle QBs. Niether is a scrambling/mobile type QB, I don't believe.
