If you are LSU, how do you stop Manziel?

Re: If you are LSU, .............

Control the clock. They gonna try and pound the rock on you and keep him off the field. When he's on the field, expect some major heat from their defense.

Re: If you are LSU, .............

LSU knows what to do. Don't collapse the pocket. Sit your LBs back and wait for him.

Re: If you are LSU, .............

Ima pretty sure he's gonna find out real quick they ain't Ole Miss.:biggrin2: On the flip side, I gotta give the kid credit, he's got a knack for makin' plays.

Re: If you are LSU, .............

Pretty sure the better question is "if you are Manziel, how do you move the ball on LSU?"

He threw for a whopping 173 yards and ran for 60 against UF - the only decent defense he's faced so far.

Against running quarterbacks, the defense has to be disciplined in their pass rush. If they're going to run, it has to be designed not off broken plays that you initially defended well. This is what kills defenses against quarterbacks of this variety. Make him get hit not scramble for 15 and slide or run out of bounds.

You do this by cutting off the rush in front of the quarterback. Nobody gets behind the QB and the push the protectors into the QB thus forcing him to step up instead of rolling out. If he does run, it is right up the middle where everybody can collapse on him and not allow a big play.

Wouldn't be surprised if LSU lays an egg here. After the big "win" and killing USCe "dreams" in Tiger stadium....LSU has tendancies to play flat, to downright awful ('specially on offense). If'n I'm aTm, Ima stack the line with errbody and shut down the run and if Mettenberger can beat me throwin' the ball, then so be it.

That's true audio, but that was Johnny's first college football game and he was too quick to run, didn't check his reads down field at all. He has gotten better at this and should do better. UF is really the only game to make a good comparison, but it was our first game of the year and JM is a better player now than he was in game 1. Personally, I think we would have beat Florida if we had played LT as scheduled. Johnny would have made more plays downfield with that experience. IMO, if lsu's DL holds the line and their DBs can cover our receivers, it's going to be a long night.
rgw, not many people are going to push our OL into the QB. I think you underestimate our OL. We have three guys that will are for sure NFL draft picks. The tackles are future first rounders.
