I'm not going to go so far as to say that A&M will beat LSU or Bama.....but most of you really are not giving Manziel his just due IMHO. The kid is absolutely ELECTRIC and is putting on a clinic right now as a FRESHMAN!! He is on pace to blow Tebow and Cam Newton's dual threat numbers away. I have watched all of A&M's games this year (Manziel is my Fantasy FB QB...lol) and you just have to watch the kid to believe the plays he makes. He just plays sandlot ball out there and is almost impossible to tackle in the backfield.
I'm sure most of you will say..."yeah well look how Denard Robinson did against us"....difference is that 'Johnny Football' can actually throw the ball with accuracy where Robinson can't.
In short....LSU and Bama will both probably win against the Aggies....but you are fooling yourself if you don't think this kid will make some big time plays to make things dicey for a while.....again....JMHO.

Anybody can be beat on any given day. I've watched Manziel and he is quite an athlete and football player. But he's not invincible. In giving "Johnny Football" his due let's not short change the Bama or LSU defenses either. In the second half of the Florida game he wasn't quite as electric as the first half. I wonder why? Probably because Florida's SEC style defense made adjustments and they worked.
It should be a good matchup to watch, both against LSU and Bama. If LSU gets aTm to play "their style" football "Johnny Football" might be in for a world of hurt. Make no mistake about it. SEC defenses physically punish opposing offenses. It doesn't mean they always win but it ain't no dang walk in the park either. Manziel might have a good game but I very seriously doubt he's going to go "Cam Newton" on LSU.

People like Manziel are putting up such huge numbers because teams don't play defense anymore. Whether it's rules changes or philosophy changes, but defense is simply not emphasized at most places anymore. Alabama still does. LSU still does. In fact, I think Alabama and LSU are the only 2 teams that still put in time and effort developing a killer defense.
If Sumlin doesn't put in the time and effort on the D side, he'll go the way of Holgorsen and Leach before him. Oh, A&M will have fun. They'll be exciting. But they'll lose. For some people, obscene stats are where the fun is at. I guess I'm just like Gene Stallings. The fun is in the winning.

John Chavis does not need any help from anyone in designing a game plan. But if he did, he could look of the tape of BAMA-Mich. Controlled pass rush that clogs Johnny Football's running space. If LSU has the DB's to cover and they should, stopping TAMU should not be too difficult. I think Eric Reid was hurt against USce and if he is gimpy this weekend, that could be a serious problem for Chavis.
Actually dsp, this is the only other SEC board I have opened an account on. I've found the tidefan members to be knowledgeable about football, which is usually rare. I try to be respectful on someone else's board while making it known where I'm from as well. I spend 99% of my online time on my own team board, but I've found it interesting and entertaining to talk with bama fans. I know a lot about HS and College football in Texas, but not much about Alabama (or your region). Texan's tend to think Texas (state, not the school) is the best, my thought is if that is true, why is Alabama and the SEC so good with so few Texans on the teams? If you don't care, there are plenty of other tide fans willing to have a conversation.
I think there is a great desire to recruit more in Texas and bring those kids on board. The difference in the SEC is the overall philosophy and mindset once you get to the collegiate level, that and this thing called "coaching" that goes on.
Florida has an incredible amount of talent that feeds SEC rosters and some of the other states are even more loaded with talent, for their population.
And a quick glance shows those nearer to Texas already take a decent number of Texas kids; Arkansas has 19, LSU has 13. Alabama took a good one out of Texas a few years back and I think they have two good kids right now.
I think you contain Manziel by playing assignment defense. Everybody executes their assignment. That's how Bama took care of Tebow and FL in 2009. Having said that, he does pose a unique threat, but is he any more dangerous than Robinson at Michigan? Granted, he appears to be a better passer, but he is certainly not more dangerous than Robinson out of the pocket.
I didn't realize it was five. I was only counting the two I have seen play in high school, Morris and Foster.
Defense. WE'll see how good LSU is after playing against a very good passer. Only way he light LSU up if he plays smart and play it safe.
).LSU wins this game, even though I think Texas A&M is playing very well. LSU's defense will be able to contain Manaiel, and they have three legitimate NFL DE's that will be pressuring Johnny 'football' all game.
LSU will score just enough to 'eke' out the win in a low scoring game...
One of the the interesting things is that Chavis kind of played passive against WVU last year and allowed them to rack up a lot of yardage but they got aggressive when WVU got close to the redzone. LSU also had some of those fortunate takeaway bounces go their way like all of the 2011 season. Personally, I don't think the LSU staff feels comfortable against this air-raid style offense. 4 turnovers and a kickoff return made that WVU game a more comfortable win on the scoreboard than it was on the field.
If TAMU can protect the football, there is no reason why they can't give LSU a legitimate scare.

I'm kind of thinking this as well...I'm still not sold on LSU being "back". At the same time I'm not sold on the Aggie defense to stop LSU either, they're pretty weak. OTOH, LSU's dline is one of the best so Manziel will have his work cut out for him.
I had thought USCe's defense/Clowney & Co would suffocate Mettenberger and they couldn't do it. I think the Aggies best shot is for them to have long drives, let Manziel run LSU's defense all over the field and tire them out, eat up clock and score at every opportunity. LSU's offense isn't geared to come from behind, its more about running the ball, throwing it deep for a big play now & then, but not putting it on Mett to win the game, and keeping their defense fresh. Take away their deep threat and force Mett to read the defense on the short passes. He seems to struggle with the short passing game.
