I'm Picking Oregon To Beat L.S.U.

Look for Jefferson to turn the ball over and to get frustrated.

So... I take it you think Jefferson will play in this game... I hope he does. I may be wearing my sec colored glasses here, but I think LSU wins in a close one, similar to the way the talibarn did it.

I'll say we watched different games. Auburn's defense was middle of the pack at best in the SEC. Oregon was supposed to be an elite offense. They looked pedestrian in that game. Auburn fiddled around on offense all game and allowed Oregon to hang around.

Let's put it this way. The healthy Alabama team that played in the Capital One Bowl would have beaten Oregon by 50.

Now... I may be wrong come next Saturday. And I'll certainly admit it. But I was woefully underwhelmed by Oregon against Auburn last year.

No joke. I saw a team by the latter stages of the third quarter barely hanging on for dear life. It was obvious the size of the Auburn OL had taken its toll on the duck DL. LSU's defense is solid all the way back. Where as Auburn's as simply solid up front and sucked from beyond that point.

I think being a way more physical team like LSU isn't nearly the advantage early in the season when opponents like Oregon are fresh and not beat up a bit.

If this game was the seventh of the season I'd load up on LSU. But it's the first week and I just think the Tigers have too many distractions and the Ducks have a chip on their shoulder.

If it always came down to "who's the most talented team?", we wouldn't have lost a game last year.

I think we can all agree that the mental approach to a game is invaluable, and I just don't see LSU having any advantage at all from that perspective.

You may be right Alasippi. I'll just point out, Oregon was well rested for the NC game, and again, Auburn's average defense controlled their offense the entire game.

I'm just ready to see some football though. Right or wrong, it should be a good game.

I think LSU wins by 7-10. Hopefully they just line up and wear out Oregon as red suggests. If they have at least 2 drives of 7+ minutes, I think LSU wins handily. If they don't have any drives that long, then I think Oregon wins because they'll have tired out the LSU D with their pace. That pace is only effective if your D can get the opposing O off the field quick. I'm much more worried UGA gets blown out by the darling of the media in week 1 and leave a clear path to the national title game for Boise.

Remember also....Oregon held Auburn to their second lowest point total of the season last year...and with all due respect to LSU, they don't have Auburn's offense from last season.

Very true. But I feel Auburn was trying to be too cute in that game, instead of just pounding them. They had completely worn down Oregon's smallish defense by the 4th quarter. Had they played to their strength's more so early on, I think the game would have been blown wide open.

That's all speculation and opinion, either way, but I will be surprised if Oregon beats LSU even considering the distractions. It'd be a setback for the SEC too, IMO.

Oh trust me, I'm SEC all the way and will be pulling for the Tigers. I just don't think it'll happen. Honestly, I hope I'm wrong, but when I pick games I try to throw emotional ties out the window.

I hear ya. I'm not basing it off being tied to the SEC either, but I do hate to see one of our NC contenders go down to a Pac 12 team even if it's another NC contender. Honestly, I'm very worried about Georgia vs. Boise State. That would be far worse for the SEC's reputation than an LSU lose, even though Georgia isn't highly regarded this year.

LSU needs to buckle down and prepare hard, not party it out before the game. If they have enough team discipline to do those things I believe they will win.

If they party too much in Dallas they lose.

I'll say this....

If I miss this one I'm gonna look like a dummy right off the bat lol

But I've always found that the best picks are the ones that no one expects.

We shall see :)

I'm just ready for some football!

Yes, overall LSU has superior talent. No question.

But for some reason, under Miles, they've always been notoriously slow coming out of the blocks to start the season, especially on offense. Then they tend to gradually get better as the season progresses.

I disagree. Remember 2008 opening sept game between LSU and Virginia Tech. LSU beat the ever living snot out of Beamers guys 48-7. VA Tech came into that game ranked in the top ten if I remember right.

In all honesty I'm going to be very surprised if Georgia loses to Boise.

Mark Richt is a good coach and he's going to have his team ready. At least I hope so for his sake.

Auburn's defense was nothing compared to LSU's, and they were able to stop Oregon. I like LSU's chances. Chavez is a much better DC than Roof.

Also, Sip - you say LSU comes out of the gate slow. Not really. Last year against UNC, they were up big until UNC had some big plays in the end of the game (ala Alabama against UF and PSU last year and UGA in 2008).

Good point but isn't that the year it took Virginia Tech a half a year before they could beat anybody?
