Is it Really the Time to Consider Firing CKD???

It's pretty simple. Does Bama beat FSU if Saban is the coach, 100 out of 100 times. This isn't the Pac 12. Its the SEC. Where is the toughness, the effort, the desire to "make his ass quit." What are we doing?

*I* don't know. That's above my pay grade. But he *does* have an impressive winning record ... everywhere he's been the coach.

We don't agree. After last year's LANK idiocy, I am choosing to view this as Coach DeBoer's Year One. (So I reject your assertion that DeBoer is "making the same mistakes" and repeating them.)

But the recent posts about the Playboy Mansion nature of the hotel rooms is VERY troublesome to me.
LANK is gone and things that existed last season were on full display Saturday. So can you explain that? Apparently LANK wasn't the cause of the effort problems we saw last season. So who gets blamed for that?

I have absolutely zero confidence in him. In fact, I lost it after that Oklahoma game last year. But as mentioned above, the economic reality is he isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

I feel that all of these issues boil down to culture and personality. His works in the Pacific Northwest, but it will never work in the Deep South. Especially not at a historic blue blood program.

The hope is that against all odds a leopard can change its spots before the economic scales tilt the other way.
This here x 100. Do I think CKD is in over head? Yep. Do I think he truly didn’t have a firm grasp on what it takes to be successful at Alabama and in this conference? Absolutely. Is there a huge difference in “football culture” is his other stops versus our culture here? Yep. Is it time to “cut bait”? Nope. Got to try to weather the storm.

Exit question: Over and over we continue to hear these coaches talk about “instilling confidence” in the players and the team in general. So after watching CKD and his assistants during games and in pressers, does anything THEY say or do instill ANY confidence in you as a fan that they are capable of getting the job done and finding success? And if they can’t do it for you as a fan, how in the heck can we expect them to instill confidence in our players?

Did you read where I posted I am choosing to view this as DeBoer's Year One? Why are you demanding I go back two years?

Until mid-2nd Quarter of the FSU game I thought each team was playing "backyard football." FSU was playing it better.

Then FSU really started to click, and I thought Alabama was still playing backyard ball. I suspect we're going to realize FSU is a much better team than we thought prior to this game....

Then it hit me that was was absent was ... effort / drive / passion on our side of the ball. (Not merely LOS ... pretty much all over the field; offense AND defense.) Honestly I am still in a bit of a state of shock that Bama played so badly.

But he’s making the same mistakes. Also, this is year two no matter how you want to spin it. I thought last year he was a terrible hire. I now know that. I don’t care what he did at Eastern Washington Fresno State or wherever he came from. This is Alabama. It should be obvious. I honestly hope I’m wrong and he proves it, but I doubt he’s able. This team is an embarrassment to the jersey they’re wearing, and that’s on the coaches.

Edit: there’s a line Tony Montana gave in Scarface about what gives orders. We’re missing that.

well it is not like we did'nt get a heads up about this. Saban nailed it again. That was not alabama football in any way, shape or form. There looked to be no pride to wear the crimson and white. I fear those days are dead and gone and honestly it makes me a little sad...........the press conference embarrased me as a fan. CKD making out like he didnt understand the question about being asked about how he said he liked what he was seeing in practice last week. He was killing time to shoot out a vanilla response. I think I am done. sorry for the rant.

Not making the 12-team playoffs and losing 4 games to unranked opponents in the first season plus one game is a pretty poor start. I wasn't sure DeBoer was up to what he was going to be facing in the SEC and ACC (let alone Bama standards) when he was hired, but I honestly didn't think it would go this badly.

But if the buyout reported is legit just under $70 million he's probably here for the rest of this season and at least part of next. I understand it's still really early in his tenure and not the time for a semi-rash decision, I just wish I could muster the confidence that he'll be able to turn it around and I don't think I can right now.

Alex Golesh from USF

Marcus Freeman from ND

DeMeco Ryans from the Texans (idk if he wants to coach college)

and look I’m a #NeverDabo guy but may have to take a call I don’t know

that’s all I can think of for now, I don’t think he’ll be fired but the fact that there’s already fans/media talking about the next coach is scary
I have noticed a lot of #NeverDabo people. He is a whiner, he is down home/folksy(which I personally like), and he at times has a “punch me” face. But I will give ole Dabo this-his teams play extremely hard, they seem fairly disciplined on the field, and he has left a lot of blood and sweat in Ttown. Not saying he is the next, but saying he has some of the attributes that fans seem to be looking for. I honestly don’t think he would come running at this point in his career. I like Lane, but not as HBC. Which brings the question, who? Who would be available? Who would come? We are not exactly an easy bunch to please. Before the Deboer hire, I was hoping for Lanning, full disclosure.

I was probably one of the few that thinks Dabo is the best option. He may not be an option, but there are precious few multi national championship coaches with Bama ties left. He has his faults and he lost to LSU at home, but his team fights every game. I can handle a loss as long as we fight. One thing I think I know is we wouldn’t be the punchline of a lot of jokes with him.

I know Bill Curry isn't a fan favorite around here, but I was at the Sugar Bowl in 1990 when he reprimanded Prince Wembley for showboating (BTW, Wembley's actions are MILD compared to what some players do today) and sent a clear message. Bama now has players getting away with far worse in game situations (see clips from Saturday) and apparently, even in the team hotel prior to the game. It would be nice to see CKD have just a little of the competitive fire that Curry displayed that night, your feelings of Curry notwithstanding. And no, I'm not talking about getting in the face of a 3rd-stringer either.

Without bring privy to what goes on in practice, team meetings, and even during a game, all I have to go on is what I see. What I see is a team that has a multitude of supposedly talented players who do not play like a talented team, players that appear to be undisciplined and are allowed to get away with it, players taking plays off or mailing it in if they get too far behind, players that look lost and don't know how to identify or tackle a ball carrier, and a coaching staff that looks clueless and makes late adjustments, if they adjust at all. What I see tells me this team is in worse shape than Shula's 2003-06 teams, because despite Shula's coaching inexperience, the lost scholarships due to probation, and the quality of most of the players on the roster, at least his teams competed and tried their best; they just weren't very good, except the 2005 team. Shula was handicapped by lots of issues beyond his control, and yes, his overall record at Bama is disappointing, but at least his players and coaches looked like they cared.

My first Bama game that I remember watching as a young child was the Auburn game in 1971, featuring Musso (Ala) and Sullivan (AU), and I was hooked. I have been a Tide fan ever since, despite living out of state now for over 35 years. Sadly, after watching the product on the field since October of last year, though still a fan, I am done watching the clown show that this coaching staff has produced. I just don't see how anyone can say with a straight face they have confidence that CKD and staff can right the ship, especially after going 5-5 in the past 10 games, 1-5 away from home, and looking totally lost and unmotivated. Hate away if you want, as that is your prerogative; just expressing my opinion.

For very X amount of time you tolerate a cultural toxin, even after the source is gone I've found it takes at least 2x to expunge its effects. Leadership can determine how long the hangover lasts, so we have to hope CKD is taking the right steps out of our view...

Can I request all the mods to immediately ban or suspend anyone that starts a thread demanding an apology to DeBoer if we upset uga or any other team we are an underdog to?
As of today its the staff that owes the apologies. If they turn this around then we're just going to call it even. But as of today, no one on the staff deserves apologies. They owe the apologies.

Does the fact that a fair number of the players aren't from the Deep South affect your thinking?

I'm curious what happens if Alabama goes into November with only two wins. After watching the last four games, and looking at the schedule, I think that's very possible.

I just don't know how a program like Alabama, with the talent on the team, can bring DeBoers back for a 3rd year. I now FSU brought Novell back after a two-win season, but he had success the prior two years and had a team depleted of talent last year.

Alabama just looks worse from week to week, and now season to season.

Thinking it’s time to part ways is a Barner mentality plain and simple.
We are a spoiled fanbase.
Interestingly enough, it took Brian Harsen 21 games to reach 4 losses to unranked opponents, whereas it has taken DeBoer 14.

Spoiled or not, the longer this goes on, the harder it will be to ever rebuild. This is not Missouri or Arkansas we are dealing with here.

Not really.

The culture has not yet been separated from the geographic location of the University, nor its history. The fan base, by and large, is from the Deep South region. Ultimately, the HC answers to the fan base. Granted, that may be the ultra wealthy, but the clamor arising from the cheap seats still resonates as well.

The players must all buy in to this to some degree as well but then that’s where a HC who is aware of these dynamics and able to navigate them is critical.

I would actually prefer all of this clicks with DeBoer but if it hasn’t by now, it’s probably not going to. Everything I see from him indicates that none of this has likely even entered his mind.
