Is Stoops a real possibility?

Is Stoops a real possibility? NO! NO! NO! He's not. I'm trying to at least help you all control your expectations. No freaking chance.

I get the impressions that you hope he is not more than we hope he is? Hmm wonder why that is?

Guys, if there is NCAA trouble for OU there is NO WAY Alabama will hire him. That would be a PR disaster. Our enemies would pounce on Alabama. Forget it.
We need to be hiring the NEXT Bob Stoops and build our own program back. I was excited about the possibility of Spurrier and Coach Oliver coming because CSS would have taken the talent we already have and whupped fanny next year and we all know what CBO can do.
That said I am convinced that we need to find the next CSS. He was recruited out of Duke for goodness sakes!! We just have to have confidence in our leadership to know who that person is.
Either way I choose to be exited about our future. Get fired up !! RTR
Cheers

I have to agree with you here. We're just now starting to climb back out of the hole the last NZAA investigation put us into. I'm sure Stoops is a great coach, but I think in the near future the NZAA will be looking up OU's rectal orifice with a flashlight. If CBS leaves there and comes here, they'll surely be looking at us again. They'd love to have any old reason to kill our program completely. That said, IMO, we can't afford to even remotely entertain Stoops as a possible candidate.

Deliveryman35.....while I certainly cannot argue with the success of the Tide program pre-WWII, the NCAA has recently published an article documenting the "Modern Era" from 1945 to the present & in said article, OU is ranked the number #1 program in college football. In the article, it credits OU with 16 published national championships. Of course, the official number is 7 but just as Alabama claims 12, there are 9 others that we could claim if so inclined.

In the article it lists several categories such as number of weeks ranked #1, winning %, & several more that I can't remember at this time.

Having said this, I would not rank us ahead of Alabama but certainly it's equal with only ND & possibly USC ahead of us.

Now, as I posted in another thread here on Tidefans, if Coach Stoops leaves OU it'll be for the NFL & the regular rumors are either to the Browns or the Cowboys.

The reports I read & info I've heard is that the NCAA investigation into the Bomar/Quinn incident is complete & a ruling or opinion will be forthcoming in March but that the investigation has not turned up anything that will result in sanctions.

Bob will make around $3.5 million this year. Our facilties are every bit the equal of Alabama's & in the Big 12, all he really has to worry about is UT. Our in-state rival does not pose the threat that yours does & the overall strength of the conference pales in comparison to the SEC. We have been on national or regional tv something like 55 straight weeks, our recruiting is going well, & the man is a rock star in Oklahoma. We average close to 85,000 in a stadium that officially seats less than 83,000. W have a season ticket base of over 70,000 & we're continually upgrading our facilities. Finally, he has the support of two of the finest administrators in the country, Presidnet David Boren & A.D Joe Castiglione.

I wish nothing but the best for Alabama but Bob Stoops is not leaving Norman for either Tuscaloosa or Coral Gables.

All of that notwithstanding, if we could get him interested...

Stoops would be crazy to leave OU. He's got one of the sweetest gigs in coaching, college or pro. He might want to take on the challenge of the NFL one of these days, but I don't see him leaving Norman for another college job. Miami is completely out of the question, he's waaay out of their price range.

I have to agree. Stoops is just too well situated where he is. There is maybe one or two good reasons why he'd want to come to Alabama, but there are many more good reasons for staying where he is. He's happy at OU and he's doing a good job there. I'd rather find the next Bob Stoops.

Either that, or hire some mercenary genetic engineers to clone the original.

Seriously, stop. I'm a college football fan more than most, and I dedicate my entire free time to COLLEGE FOOTBALL! One of the BEST football programs EVER is going to hire a new coach. This school also happens to be a bitter rival. My interest is huge, but in the end, it's enticing to watch this unfold. No matter who you get, he's going to be good. This has nothing to do with me "being scared" of Alabama having a good coach. Alabama having a great coach makes our rivalry EVEN BETTER!

I'm really tired of being judged and being treated like crap here. It's freaking immature. I say "hi" in your Mississippi State game thread and get banned. Hot stuff!

Anyway, in the future, I would like to politely ask that EVERYONE here remember this: I have NO hidden agendas for anything I say. I am interested in your program because you all are our rival. During the 3rd Saturday in October Week, I was a little aggressive in my tact. I haven't been since I started posting about your coaching vacancy. I expect the same respect back. If you can't, that's your problem.

In the end, Stoops has 0% chance of coming here, but Schiano, Rodriguez, or Grobe would all be very very good coaches for you.

Now you all know how the last fifty years have been for our little brothers in Stillwater. Bitter, envious, angry. OU cheated their way to championships, they never explain how you can cheat on the field, somebody has to make plays, their problem has been they "almost" make plays.
The vast majority of OSU fans are good people, the few that whine nonstop ruin the school's reputation.

Sounds like Auburn fans to me. We know how you feel.

No whining brother - those are facts. Do you dispute any of the NCAA findings about the program leading up to your NCs?

Hey, it's the way it is and was and I accept that. In fact, most of us do - you guys are just scared that it might change....

And for the record OSU fans are anything but bitter and angry about other schools - you guys just bring out the hate. :) In fact I hope these great Alabama fans join us for some tailgates in LA and find that out themselves!

(Sorry guys to bring the Bedlam talk over here... all in good fun!)

VolInArizona: You are a Vol on a Bama board. Adamant disagreement and "0%'s" coming from you will be answered to differently because you're a Vol. I understand your frustration because I used to post on a couple Vol boards (not with the same name, of course) and got the same kind of responses alot.

And, fwiw, I agree...Stoop ain't coming. If he does, I'll expect the return of the Lord shortly thereafter...

Stick around and don't let it bother you.

Also, I'm loving the OU/OSU sparring.

Alabama could claim more than 12 if we were so inclined and we are inclined to insist college football existed prior to 1945. ;)
