I think we are going to have to be patient until this young talent matures. Look at all the young wide receivers on offense. We have to realize that even though they may be very talented some day, they may not be running the best of routes right now. Also, they are learning from a new offensive coordinator. Then we have so many players on defense and they don't have that much experience. I've been watching Alabama football for 40 years and for some reason I just think this team can be something special given a little time. :)

After watching the replay on CSS I feel better about this win. We all know about the substitutions on the OL. But I also think we were trying to work on some things on offense. We didn't run the same game plan we did against Clemson. But late in the 3rd quarter we went back to that game plan and rammed it down their throats, going 77 yards on 11 plays with Ingram pounding the middle then bouncing it outside for the TD. I really feel like CNS said, "Look, we need a score to put this thing away. Go back to our base package and let's get 6." And that's exactly what we did. Even the announcers mentioned how much better the OL played on that drive and how different the offense looked on that drive. I really feel like we used this game to work on some things, thinking that we had a lead and could put it out of reach whenever we wanted to.

I kind of had the same feeling mlh. Almost to a conspiracy theory level!

I actually found myself wondering if CNS was constructing a demoralizing win (yet still a win) to help build levees around the rest of the season. To keep the team hungry and focussed and drill in the importance of every single play regardless of the opponent or the score. Maybe? Probably not but... hmm??

If it were true I'd never know for sure (Saban would have to kill me). At any rate, a win is a win. I'll take three more without covering the spread in a heart beat!!

We appear to have a good team, despite the bad performance against Tulane. However, if we are going to win the West it certainly appears that we will have to stay healthy on the offensive and defensive lines. I know some may say this is true of most teams, but it seeems especially true for us.

I'm distubed by this game. Two years into Saban we should not be still losing focus so profoundly just because the team coming in isn't a household name. And I'm disturbed that our second team offensive lineman were so inneffective at run blocking.

We have much further to go as a team than I thought. I'm still hopeful for the season but we are not ready for the big time.

I disagree - the Tulane team had all summer to prepare for this game and came into it to play tough. Don't forget that their HC beat us - TWICE! - where we were favored.

Also, it's not just that it was our "second team" offensive line but that 3 of 5 were playing out of position. We don't have the depth to go a true 2-deep so the coaches are having to move guys all around to get the right coverage in the right places. Should we be better? Sure, but it still is game 2.

Tulane was never "in" the game - we were in control throughout. I agree we should have been better at executing but I would rather have an "off" game vs Tulane than Georgia.

What's interesting to me is that I think we may have played our best game of the season the first week and let's hope this one was our WORST game of the season. If that holds true, we will all be happy by the end of the year.

All of the comments above about the OL are correct. We will have "arrived," from a depth standpoint, when we can send a real tackle in when a tackle goes down, and the same for all the other positions. Our starters have just about closed the gap with the starters on the rest of the top conference teams. However, on the OL, our second and third stringers just wouldn't play anywhere else. Take Ross, for example. Would someone who was so recently debating himself about giving up FB, and who's not in the best shape, be playing, if we weren't desperate? CNS has talked about our depth issues, but, sometimes, I think no one is listening...

Agree 100%. Lots of players didn't have their best games against Tulane, but OL play was the primary reason the game was as ugly as it was. Our defense was already on the field a lot in the 1st quarter due to the 2 quick ST scores. We then compounded the problem with our inability to sustain drives and this was directly attributable to line play. We couldn't get any consistent blocking - run or pass - in the 1st half. It was better in the 2nd half and I felt like we could have run it pretty much when we wanted/needed in the 2nd half. Finally, we did exactly that on the TD drive. I thought the defense played pretty well considering they got zero help from the offense and were on the field for over 80 snaps.
