She is the person allegedly raped. As long as she is satisfied, who are we to "demand justice"? I am not saying that you are, but many will (for their own reasons), and that is also wrong, IMO.

My point isn't that it looks bad now - it does. My point is that more is going to come out. Maybe it is worse for JW, maybe it's exculpatory. The fact is it's still very early in many respects. I don't blame anyone for saying it looks bad right now, but the case isn't being tried right now. I wouldn't put a penny on any outcome being likely right now.
I think being "paid off" in lieu of prosecuting reveals motive and that the crime wasn't that big of a deal to her. That's just my opinion. Keep in mind if he truly raped her then he's a rapist. Free on the streets to do it again. Think about that for a second.
To your first point - Time heals and it has been almost a year. She could be far enough past this to be willing to put it behind her for some $$$. Also consider that a settlement means no rehash in court - no being raked over the coals, with every aspect of her sexual history being put on public display. These cases get very ugly in court. It is one of the reasons that so few girls prosecute.
As a nation that is "supposed" to treat everyone equally, "we" should demand more than money for a violation of this type. Otherwise it is the rich being treated even more preferentially than they already are.
Yes, but the question would be - is the case winnable? Without the girl's testimony, even with her statements when she made the police report, it would be nearly impossible to get a conviction.
