we are never going to agree on this so i am out. But, the fact is, he didn't. So a far better approach is to help him learn from this and make sure it never happens again.
Gah! Hurry up, August!
i don't see why driving high and driving drunk are separated in your mind...both are, and should be, considered major violations as they fully impair your ability to operate a vehicle. This is worse than being "cited" for pot. DUI is like using a deadly weapon on the streets. Too many die from this and they are usually the persons in the other car, not the idiot drinking and driving. I hope Coach comes down hard on this stupid kid.
I agree.Everyone is talking about "drinking responsibly" and using "bad judgement; but no one seems to recognize the fact that, with every beer or drink you down, your judgement about almost anything (except in some cases whether to have another drink or not) becomes poorer. So it seems to me the "best" way would be to not drink at all, thereby eliminating the cause of the "poor judgement". JMO

Now that's funny! But you're right. The last time I advocated not drinking I got called everything just short of Judas Iscariot. But, I also questioned peoples character (my opinion only), so I guess I was asking for a fight. I digress.
Do you really think that is plausible? In a perfect world yes but these are 18-22 y/o and they are going to drink. Considering most are going to drink the "best" way is not drive after you have had a drink. So it seems to me the "best" way would be to not drink at all, thereby eliminating the cause of the "poor judgement". I think this is absolutely plausible. It's all about choices, no one has to drink even in college. These guys are not average students. They live in a glass bowl. I know they are not average students but they are human. I don't think you can address the issue with abstinence.I think this is absolutely plausible. drink because he wants to be certain he uses good judgments in what he does and says.
