Re: John Gruden????
Gruden ain't a great coach. Tampa is terrible right now. They won the SB with Dungy's players. Then Tampa Bay went 7-9, 5-11, 11-5 (first round loss) and this year they are 3-10. He's been to the playoff 4 times in 9 years, once in the last four. He has no college head coaching experience and actually coached at UT for a while as an assistant.
This is a pretty typical post from a college football fan who doesn't understand the business of the NFL. Gruden won with Dungy's players. Translation: Gruden did what Dungy couldn't. If Gruden followed Dungy to Indy, I'd lay strong odds that Paytie would get his ring.
In college, you have your players for four years out of five. In the NFL, you have players under contract within a salary cap until the contract expires or a trade is agreed upon.
In college, the head coach is the man. In the NFL, multi-millioniare prima donnas do whatever the hell they want.
In college, as head football coach, you are responsible for acquiring the services of every one of your players. In the NFL, either you, the GM, the owner or all three make draft selections.
In college, you play the same teams every year regardless of your record. When you win, it helps recruiting. In the NFL, success means a tougher schedule and a lower draft pick.
I could go on, but saying that Gruden would not be successful in college because he hasn't "done much" at Tampa Bay is misguided. It just doesn't follow.
