Re: John Gruden????

Anyway, it seems that no matter what anyone says you guys want Gruden, so I'm out.

I just hope you guys don't get your wish...

Re: John Gruden????

Audio if you were offended by my comments then I for your sake I will gladly apoligze to you (sorry). Although the repeated commentary on your part seem to legitimze my statement. Gruden as a coach has groomed a NFL team to a super bowl contender (before Tampa Bay) and then came into TB and then was then put the magic formual together in Buc Country!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THE BIG PICTURE SAYS THE MAN CAN COACH HIS AZZ OFF!!!!!!!!!:BigA:

Re: John Gruden????

Audio how can you say that he is not a good coach? He won a Super Bowl! That is no small accomplishment. The guy is a good coach that works for a bad organization. Did you not love him when he won the super bowl?

Re: John Gruden????

Wasn't it the famous "tuck" rule that screwed Gruden out of going to Super Bowl with Oakland? I think he would do well at bama just because he doesn't take any crap. RTR

Re: John Gruden????

Hey not a bad idea. Over in the flight Plan thread, A private jet left T-town for Tama. Who flys a gulfstream jet? Maybe the board and MM are up to something. He would be great. He has nothing going for him down in the NFL. We probably have a better chance at Gruden than Saban. Considering Saban is not out of the playoffs and beat the Patriots.

Re: John Gruden????

Yeah Gruden did pretty well at Oakland, then got fired for god knows what. (Al Davis really grinds my gears. He's fired 2 coaches that went on to win Superbowls. ). Then Gruden wins a Superbowl with Dungy's players at TB the next season.

NFL teams go through cycles of winning and losing (and I blame most of it on a salary cap). some can be blamed on a draft I guess. But i cannot understand how a winning coach forgets how to coach. And I cannot understand how a bad coach used to win. Why is that? :conf2:

The answer (imo) is that the coach isnt different. Circumstances often beyond his control have changed. Its unfortunate that TB is not doing well now but perhaps he's suffering because he has salary cap issues. Thats the excuse Nick Saban apologists often give. So why not Gruden?

Re: John Gruden????

Interesting article ... not very complimentary, to say the least. But makes the point that Gruden may be available after this season. :)

Gruden deserves to feel the heat for awful offense

Former Buc Warren Sapp once explained Gruden's role in getting the team to the Super Bowl like this: "Tony Dungy mixed the batter, poured it in the pan, set the oven at just the right temperature and then put the pan in. And then they switched cooks, the timer went off and Jon Gruden got a chance to pull out this big, beautiful cake."

After the stoic defensive-minded Dungy was fired, Gruden was brought in and touted as a young Bill Walsh -- a passing wizard who would transform the Bucs into a pyrotechnic powerhouse. Gruden wasn't just going to win, he was going to win with flair and pizzazz.

Instead, he has lost with dullness and predictability. He took over a pedestrian offense and made it pathetic. In his five seasons, the Bucs offense has been ranked 24th, 10th, 22nd, 23rd and, as of right now, next-to-last 31st in the league.

Gruden has turned Cadillac Williams into Hybrid Honda Civic Williams. The Bucs have now gone 11 quarters without scoring a touchdown. The offense has not scored a touchdown in six different games. The Bucs couldn't score at last call on ladies night in Tijuana.

Davis didn't fire CJG, the Glazer Family (Bucs ownership) went to Davis and offered draft picks and cash for Jon Gruden to come to Tampa. Yeah, he had Dungy's players when they won the SB, but he also had his offense and a powerful defense. He's a good coach right now, but he doesn't have any well talent this year.

JUST SAY NO TO CHUCKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's right he is the only coach to ever be traded. I think Gruden would hurt more than help and if he did win would jump back to the NFL as soon as he could.JMHO

Re: John Gruden????

Just don't see him being a really good fit in here at Bama. Not sure how far he could take us, and just think he would find a way back to either Tennessee or the NFL...IMO.

Not true. Bill Bellicheck was traded too. And Pete Carroll & Herm Edwards.

Something to keep in mind about Sapp's comments--Tony Dungy has never made the Superbowl despite have some of the most talented offenses of all time at Indy and defenses of all time at Tampa. To use his analogy, Dungy always makes a great smelling cake, but he never took it out of the oven. Gruden did a pretty good job of doing what Dungy cannot. That is win a championship.

Re: John Gruden????

This is a pretty typical post from a college football fan who doesn't understand the business of the NFL. Gruden won with Dungy's players. Translation: Gruden did what Dungy couldn't. If Gruden followed Dungy to Indy, I'd lay strong odds that Paytie would get his ring.

In college, you have your players for four years out of five. In the NFL, you have players under contract within a salary cap until the contract expires or a trade is agreed upon.

In college, the head coach is the man. In the NFL, multi-millioniare prima donnas do whatever the hell they want.

In college, as head football coach, you are responsible for acquiring the services of every one of your players. In the NFL, either you, the GM, the owner or all three make draft selections.

In college, you play the same teams every year regardless of your record. When you win, it helps recruiting. In the NFL, success means a tougher schedule and a lower draft pick.

I could go on, but saying that Gruden would not be successful in college because he hasn't "done much" at Tampa Bay is misguided. It just doesn't follow.

Thank you.

And for those of you saying that he is operating under poor ownership, you don't know what you are talking about. This franchise was a laughingstock under the ownership of one of our own, Hugh Culverhouse. Hugh ran this franchise purely for profit and could care less about winning. When the Glazers bought the Bucs they immediately opened the checkbook and turned this moribund program into a Super Bowl winner and one of the most valuable franchises in the league.

Watch what they end up doing with Manchester U.

And I can't see Chucky in the college ranks anytime soon, for what its worth. Would love to have him, think he would be a phenomenal college coach, but I don't see it happening.

Most of them. The ones he doesn't get along with typically are shipped out rather quickly.

The biggest rub on him from players is his toughness. Some don't like it. Others respond to it very well.

Re: John Gruden????

Has JG or any pro head coach expressed any interest in being a college head coach, whether it be BAMA or elsewhere? Do you see JG being on the "hot seat" this year?
