I believe he will make the Falcons. He might be on the practice squad this year, but I would bet he will stick for a little while. I believe Matt Flynn is the Packers' backup QB. I konw he won a national championship at LSU, but is he really much better??? I don't think so. I had read where teams were impressed with JPW's ability to learn a playbook. He can be an effective game manager, which I believe is a valuable asset for a backup QB in the NFL.

Looks like DJ Shockley may need to take nbr 2 position or he's gone somewhere else.

Will say this about JPW - He's got sand; one of the gritiest QBs around. Also one of the hottest and coldest QBs too. But when he's on, he is very very good.

I think John Parker has high value as a UFA for Atlanta.I think he can make the team and stick around holding a clip board for a few years.the Falcons are set for a decade or so with that Ryan kid. He's a stud for sure.

The two backups for Atlanta are in contract years, so one of them will get tossed even if he's head and shoulders better than Wilson. Wilson will get the job mainly due to being cheap. And in two years he will get the boot for a yet cheaper rookie. Thats the terrible thing about the current salary structure set up by the last CBA. It requires pay increases thereby keeping the league stocked with less experienced rookies over better older players who have not yet reached starting positions.

basically you start in 2 or your done in the NFL.

Which when I think about it may not be too different from Alabama in the near future. oh well, college should prepare you for life so...

Yep, the Falcons are pretty well locked in to Matt for a while. The key to JPW's future in the league is for Mr. Ryan to get hurt and maybe allow JPW to sneak in some quality PT. If he can prove that he can win a few games, he could give some GM's a reason to think about signing him when or if the Falcons cut him.

We definitely dont want anyone to get hurt to get JPW on a team but what we want to happen is for JPW to make the team and get some NFL experience and then maybe get a job as a second teamer and pull a Matt Cassell.

I'm not wanting Matt to get hurt (maybe a little, since I am a Saints fan but I digress). Seriously, it's going to take something along the lines of Ryan getting hurt and missing some starts for JPW to get his chance to show that he can do more than walk the sidelines with a clipboard. He will then either prove that he is a legit backup for the Falcons to sign or make another GM take a shot on him.

It's a good thing for Stabler (and the Raiders) that it wasn't that way back when he was playing. For 4 years he rode the pine behind Lamonica and Blanda before taking over the starting job. His playing time consisted of holding for Blanda's kicks.

Young also paid his dues with the 49ers as a backup to Montana before becoming an NFL HOFer.

While I hope he makes it, I'll be very surprised if JPW gets a job with the Falcons or any NFL team.

I think JPW has a good chance to make it. Shockley has never impressed me. He was brought on the team to mirror Michael Vick's style and be able to step in to replace him if he went down due to injury.

The Falcons offense is [thankfully] no longer built around a QB with Vick's style. I believe that is a big reason for their recent success so I don't see any need for Shockley in the big picture. JPW, on the other hand, would be a much better fit.

:BigA: Roll Tide!
