I feel like I missed something. Did something happen over the last day or so?
Just a reminder that we are all on the same team. I thought it a concept worthy enough to have it's own thread.

Enemies of our country are continually trying to divide us.

@crimsonaudio 's thread about social media highlights some of the concerns we should be thinking about going forward.

Happy Friday @Tidewater !

I'm sure that the Kremlin is egging on the spiraling conflict. Beijing as well.

I’m sorry but this is just going to be the “civility” thread again.

Yes we are all Americans but there is just too much “my side is good and your side is evil” to really matter in unifying behind some American standard. There really isn’t any compromise by the bulk of Americans

Agree or disagree I appreciate your opinion.

This thread was not intended for civility but more of a reminder that we are all Americans and on the same side, regardless of political and other societal positions.

But at the same time - a little civility never hurt anything, as I see it. ;)

I'll add to it, before we post, we should all read and think if we're actually informed about what we're posting. Not just, I saw this on another blog, but does this pass the smell test, and if it does, where did the information come from?

Second, we all have opinions and beliefs, and it's okay if someone else has a differing belief. Except we cannot accept intolerance for some unchangeable feature for a person or group. We can't change our height, skin color, where we were born, our eye color, etc. We simply can't allow intolerance to spread in our nation.

Lastly, we gotta listen to each other more instead of talking past each other. Let's all broaden our viewpoints a bit. Sometimes the other poster has a great point, some times they don't. We should reward good posts more often.

Very nice! But I have to say I don't believe we are a country divided at all.

Nice try those who are making money off division......but not going to work for many of us who can see through your "antics'!
We are definitely divided.

Hardline drawn divided.

I’ve tried to somewhat avoid making commentary on the Kirk and 1st Amendment/ Kimmel topics because things have been a bit heated even for here.

Multiple warning msg bumps from Earle and it’s stayed heated.

I will add this though:

I’ve said before that I don’t like it here (US) and I’m in the process of leaving. Well truthfully I Hate it here.

But I mean that as in the Country itself and the Politics and Government that controls everything and everyone and manipulates all the in fighting among it’s citizens.

I hate how we have so many problems that are more important in trying to solve than the distracting issues and tactics that are used to draw attention off those issues.

The rich keep getting richer and the poor and sick get sicker and poorer.

I do not hate fellow Americans though and want to make that clear.

Most people are just doing their best to survive and even if I disagree with someone’s worldview I do understand that they genuinely feel that way is what’s best for them and their immediate family and descendants.

I wish I could do something to enact change to help everyone but I have no power and am only one person.

The People (We) are supposed to have the power to enact change but they really have everyone divided right now and by design weakened.

We are together… we are like frogs in a pot of water and Politics and Gov are slowly heating the pot up and we’ll be boiling and cooked before we even realize it.

What are we going to do? What can we even do?

For me the US is hopeless.

Most of the second part of your post I agree with.

To the divided part, I offer this:

Don't fall for that trap, my friend.

There are people who are making a ton of money off creating the illusion that we are divided.

There are bots all over the Internet created by foreign agents that are doing the same (see @crimsonaudio 's thread on social media).

And when you watch or listen to the media.....who are these people they feature in their segments? They sure are not every day folks. They are pundits, politicians, and members of the media. All who make their living off giving a spin on things.

What really matters is what you see with your own eyes in the real world....meaning away from the Internet. And certainly away from message boards.

That is what I base my opinion on. 29 years in the same location here. Based on my conversations with residents here the stuff most are concerned about is the incompetence by local government to address storm-related flooding and how expensive stuff is in stores. And that about it.

Just my 2 cents....and YMMV for sure.....

I ride my bicycle a lot, and there is a real division between auto drivers and bicycle riders. A few drivers feel they can threaten, intimidate, yell at, coal roll, and even hit riders. This is not an imaginary division, and I lost an experienced elite racer friend this year to a driver who crossed the line and hit him and another rider head on. There’s very little I can do to stop or even slow this kind of senseless hate. But I ride nonetheless, because it’s what I want to do, even if it triggers some drivers.
