On the radio just now The Bamaonline.com guy said They met today and decided they did not want to retain Shula, Pres. Witt's call

Mkay, who's next? Call Mr. Spurrier!

I say throw the kitchen sink at him.

They'd better not get some work in progress, IMO.

One of the main reasons HBC is at S. Carolina is bc people said that you cannot win an SECC there...He is there to prove them wrong...His arrogance will not let him leave there, IMO, especially for another SEC school

He could be sick of the mediocrity inherent in that program. It's a longshot, sure.

I have reason to disbelieve it. One of the BOT is out of the continental US, and another may be also. Of the ones remaining, one actually supports CMS and the others are unlikely to take such a position. Not very likely, IMO. But I'm sure it draws hits...

Seriously, though, it sounds like they are moving quickly and that's a good thing if there's going to be widespread changes. I'd really not even think about getting any NFL head coaches and you can forget about Spurrier taking anything else that's not on the coast or in Florida itself. Probst isn't an option because its just too risky, unless you brought him in as an OC and I could see that happening. So, not an NFL guy, not Spurrier, not a high school coach (sorry Clappy) but someone with experience and a sound offensive mind (or someone who knows how to hire a good OC).

Who does that leave? George O'Leary? I know one thing, if this does go through there are going to be a lot of head coaches around the country cashing in just because there's an opening.

Oh, and the first person who says Butch Davis gets a spankerin'.

Yep. This is one thing that really bothered me today. I get the occasional email from bamaonline.com about recruiting but I never bother to click or unsubscribe. I haven't been over there in a long time. Today I get this email with the "latest breaking news on Mike Shula" or something to that effect. Ok, I'll bite. I click on the link, log in and see the posting. I click on it and SOMEONE WANTS MY MONEY FOR INFORMATION ON THE INTERNET! And there were about 1600 other lemmings on the site at the time, nearly 500 of which were visitors.

I added them to my spam filter and unsubscribed. That wasn't a very classy move on their part in my opinion.

Bravo Sierra on this one, I think. I believe that this would not take place without a successor waiting in the wings. The only Trustee I ever knew was John Caddell, and he was not the kind of guy that would take an uncharted course of action. I would have to believe the current BOT are cut from the same cloth.

This is quoting Bamaonline, "Reliable sources tell BOL that the five member Board has met and will unanimously recommend to the President that Shula NOT be retained for the 2007 season. Sources indicate the Alabama AD Mal Moore is in full support of this recommendation.

Sources also tell BOL that the President has intimated that he will likely take “some time” to mull over a decision – not wanting to rush to a quick decision. It could be Monday of next week before anything is final.

While no final decision has been made at this juncture, BOL feels that it is 90-95% likely that Shula will not be retained.

Stay tuned for more details. "
