Keith Jackson, 1 more time

As much as I love Keith Jackson, he is OLD and it shows in the way he was calling games in his last few years.

Let the man watch the game along with the rest of us.

I remember when NBC brought Jim McKay out for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. He did the pre-recorded intro ok but when they would ask him things during the opening ceremonies live, it was painful to watch.

When it's time to stop, it's time to stop. The older of us may remember Willie Mays trying to play the outfield for the Mets in the WS... Don't ruin the memories.

Sometimes it is better to cherish the memories and allow them to remain in the past.

There are several people/athletes that came back, only to tarnish the memories that we had with performances that fell below their previous finest.

I remember Keith Jackson as being somewhat neutral and willing to heap praise on either team, when and where it was deserved.

As far as his performance in the '93 Sugar Bowl, I feel like he was quite complimentary toward both teams. It was Bob Greise that had the mancrush on Gino.

Remember when TBS used to do the SEC Game of the week for a while. They had some guy doing the Color Commentary that was really good. I can't remember his name. I just remember he was a former Cornerback for either Georgia or Florida or maybe South Carolina back in the day........ but his color was as good as anyone's at the time

You are thinking of Tim Foley.

per Wilkepedia: Foley starred at Loyola Academy in Wilmette, Illinois before moving on to Purdue University, where he received All-American honors as a defensive back in 1969. He then played 11 seasons (1970–1980), primarily with the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League. He was named to the Pro Bowl in 1979

Maybe I'm missing something here but I thought Eli was highly thought of in Alabama. He does an hour on 104.5 The Zone here in Nashville every week of the season. I've always enjoyed listening to him. Fill me in. :conf2:

in the broadcasting world, he's very well respected. NASCAR, NFL, BAMA football, even hockey. But (1) he's a northerner and that didn't sit well with some of the BAMA nation, (2) he does, admittedly, get a little carried away with his announcing and doesn't fully express the down, yardage needed, etc. and (3) he ain't Forney.

he's a helluva nice guy, and I have had the pleasure of dealing with him personally ona a matter near and dear to my heart. He was more than willing to go the extra mile for me, and for that, I'll always be a fan; even if he does sometimes mess up the broadcast a little.

The Herbinator? All he has talked about is how BAMA better watch out and not be so confident, then of course CNS let them all know the deal talking about "Why does the media always have to turn it into David vs Goliath?"

IDK Herby I believe said BAMA better be careful against the barn and then said we would get beat by UF. Something about him just dont sit right with me. Does he have something against BAMA?

Then of course when we get # 13, he will jump all over the bama train.

Herbie has no problem with BAMA and picks them to win when he truly thinks they will. If he thinks they may be getting set for a trap game, he'll say it. He's fairly objective 99% of the time.
