Keith Jackson retiring...Again

I enjoyed him for years but his last few were downhill

True. It's hard not to have a biased attitude towards Jackson...he's done the majority of the voice overs in the Bryant Museum.

I grew up with him during the pre-cable days and he was on TV every game. The past few years I seldom saw him, so for all practical purposes he was already gone.

I loved him for the Sugar Bowl vs. Miami, but I had my doubts after the UCLA game in LA. He was extremely biased towards UCLA, which I can understand since the majority of his games were done on the West Coast, but I just didn't care for him as much

For those of you who watched college football before cable TV, Keith Jackson was college football. He had an affinity for Alabama and Coach Bryant. He actually had a real fondess for most southern teams since he grew up in Georgia although he graduated from Washington State. When ABC went to regional telecasts, probably in the mid 70's he called the big games, and whoever was ABC's second string play by play got the lesser games. There were and are still some good play by play and color commentators but he was the best of all time.

There will never be another one like Keith Jackson. He made it seem like your favorite uncle was giving you the play-by-play. And he never treated the viewer like a minion or an idiot. He was first class and treated the viewer the same. I hope he has many happy years in retirement.

I love listening to Keith Jackson, but, honestly, he should have made good on his retirement in 1998, instead of trying to come back and just do PAC-10 games. To me, his playcalling wasn't as good as it was before he tried to step down in '98 and he seemed to have more of a PAC-10 bias since.

Anyone catch the tribute on ESPN Classic? They replayed KJ's three favorite games, as an announcer, and the first was the '79 Sugar Bowl with "The Goal Line Stand" Sure felt good to see Coach Bryant walking the sidelines, along with a very young looking Mal Moore.
