If AU thinks they are going to come into BDS with 100,000 screaming Bama fans and it's going to be like last year--"almost" winning--they are going to be in for a rude awakening.

Herbi:

"UF can get back to being the SEC Champs."

Makes me feel like he is saying that UF belongs on top as SEC champs and things can get back to normal. Write this down. 11/26/10. "The barn comes into Tuscaloosa today hoping for a breakout season this year but instead they are sitting at 6-5 about to take on 100k Bama fans".

"Btw Herbi, can you remind us who you chose to play in the SECCG and your SEC west winner for 2010 again"?

I don't see what the big deal is. He's doing his job and at this point his or anyone else prediction is just that, a prediction.

I don't understand all the outrage. We all know it will be settled on the field. :BigA:

There aren't many examples of teams who play in the regular season getting a rematch in the SEC title game. I think it may have happened once or twice, but it is clear that the loser of the UF v. Bama regular season game will have a more difficult road to travel. Of course, the loser could win the rest of their games and make it, but a second loss often removes them from contention for the title game. I guess Herbie thinks we will lose to Florida for one SEC loss and to Auburn for a second. I don't know what he is thinking, but I would be glad to take a bet with him that Auburn doesn't make it.

Can the barners go ahead and claim the West now?? Is this another one of their moral victories??
They may want to go ahead and have Cheese Dip pose for his bronze statue too.

(And yeah, that's my edited name for him. Use your imagination - Cheese "Richard" is the real one i use amongst my adult friends)

How can he pick Alabama as his Preseason #1 but not even pick them to win the SEC west? :conf3:
I saw the show, but I can't remember the context in which he stated his prediction. Was he asked about a darkhorse, or was this his actual pick for the SEC title game?

Ha, good point. I have no big problems w/ Herbie at all. However, this prediction got me to thinking... In the past 3-4 yrs, has he ever picked us to win a big game???

I would be alright with them almost winning for 20 years straight. That is also known as losing. Can you imagine the frustration?

That was his pick. He did talk about darkhorses (if memory serves he mentioned UGA) and then got into his picks from the East and West.

Does anybody remember that this is the same guy who said that it was a done deal that Les Miles was headed for Michigan?

How about this? The reason Miles was able to get up and be so dramatic about all that was that he was contradicting Herbstreit's prediction.

And now Herbstreit still has the gall to get up and say THIS?

Let me ask you this, please. If you were a member of the National Council for Choosing Prophets, would you choose Kirk Herbstreit as your official National Prophet, after he had made that bonehead prediction about Miles?

I don't think that it is so much the fact that Herbstreit said this about Auburn that gets to me, so much as it is the principle, the background situation, that makes it so that he CAN say something like this and it goes out to a national audience.

This has been going on at least since 1966, when Notre Dame and Michigan State played to a tie, and they were both put ahead of undefeated and untied Alabama in the final national polls.

OK, again. . . .Herbstreit is an Ohio State guy. He played at Ohio State, and so did his father. Ohio State seems to be the consensus #2 pick in all the national preseason polls. Herbstreit is saying here, in effect, that Alabama won't be #1 in the final polls. How is that news?

ESPN has a morning show, 'Mike and Mike in the Morning.' Who do they have as their Player-guy Mike? Why, it is a guy named Mike Golic, who played for Notre Dame. In fact, he was the ND captain, just like Herbstreit was the OS captain.

OK, so this baptizes both of these guys in the waters of the Northern Press. They are officially authorized by ESPN -- and therefore recognized as the official National College Football Authority, simply because they are the only game in town, really. It is NOT because they are GOOD at what they do, but because they are simply THERE.

Since this is a case of IT IS WHAT IT IS, Kirk Herbstreit, a guy who, three or four years ago, made a GOOFY national prediction that was SHOWN to be goofy, is given a pass so that he can take another shot at it and make ANOTHER goofy national prediction.

This kind of stuff has been going on for at least half a century in this country's college football culture. THIS time, maybe Nick Saban can stuff it down their throat. Alabama may have to go 14-0, though, for that to happen.

Well, okay...so let's just go 14-0 then. What's the big deal here?

Hal, are you worried that his OSU bias will prevent us from going 14-0 or that the national media will believe AU is going to beat us everywhere but the scoreboard? I fail to see what the big deal is about someone thinking we might lose a game or two. We won't, so what difference does it make? Not losing is the best way to stay #1.

Btw, if we don't lose one this year, then it is going to be a long time before we are seriously depleted at a position like CB this year so it might be a long time before we lose again.

My two cents...I hate the media... period. These reporters make a living by writing or saying garbage that stirs it up and gets everyone talking. I say good for Herbie...He will look like a complete dumba*# at the end of the year. I can promise you... scratch that ...guarantee you...that Auburn is not going to be anywhere near the SEC title game. I hope everyone builds them up...just makes the beat down even better. Ask Georgia how that black out worked for them. Ask Miami how the Sugar bowl worked out in 92. Ask USC's over rated ....., how it feels when a no name team tosses them a beat down annually. These reporters and polls don't mean anything...all these teams still have to line up and bang heads with the ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE...we turn that cocky smile into that stupid, what just happened, stoned look that we have seen on Georgia faces and most recently the golden child himself Tim Tebows face. So let them talk. Soon we will see if they can back alllll this talk up. ROLL TIDE

Just got done arguing with an Auburn acquaintance of mine..

According to him..

-There depth is better than ours.. everywhere..
-Cam Newton is the best football player of all time..
-They have the best staff ever..
-They have as good a shot at winning the national title as we do..

Btw those are all real statements he made.. not exaggerations by me..

Oh yeah! lol he also said we're stupid for not taking our bye week every year at the end of the season to prepare for the Iron Bowl.. because "it can go either way.." lol

re: Kirk Herbstreit Predicts Florida VS Auburn for SECCG (Very old thread from 8/2010)

I just watched the show where herbie picked the aubs. His reasoning makes no sense. He says that we lost so much talent on defense and questions how a bunch of 4-5 stars recruits whom several played a lot last year will adjust to Nick Saban. I know we lost a lot but the replacements are more highly rated than who we lost. Losing the leadership of Ro is going to hurt but DH seems to be picking the leadership role. Then he says Arky has been getting a lot of love and may not be able to live up tothe hype but who has gotten more love than the aubs and cam. Arky with a established QB, among the best in the country can't live up to the hype but aubie with laptop cam taking his first snaps in the sec can???????? plus barely any mention of LSU.

I could have saved a lot of words and summed it by saying he is a idiot based on his reasoning he used on this show.

'99 immediately comes to mind, that turned out rather well for us as I recall. Of course we won the first one too. ;)
