First of all, I have no dog in this particular fight; I'm assuming that Loomer figures that because Trump sues everybody, so should she. However, Loomer's deposition for the case is a matter of public record and...it's...something.

The full deposition is here, but fair warning: It doesn't get any less weird. Yeah, this is someone we need advising the president.

PS: The Arby's section begins on page 151. You're welcome.

Where ever there's BBQ, Bourbon & Football
I think Bill Maher is very observant of today's culture and is one of the few in show business that is an equal opportunity skewerer. He calls it like he sees it, regardless of political affiliation.
I agree, you may not agree with how Maher sees things, but he no doubt doesn't have a problem calling out both parties when he feels he needs to. I at least respect him for that. Especially in a day and age where people are so rooted into their party they can't even see what their party does wrong/bad. They're just consumed with what the other party does and what the other party does (even if it is a cure for cancer) is always going to be wrong.

Yep. I'm right of center, but in that "pick any three guests for dinner" icebreaker facilitators like to use at the beginning of workshops, Bill Maher is my first pick...

Loomer, Maher: Different flavors of the same bowl of fruit loops.
Nah, the Left loved Bill Maher right up until he told them the few times he felt they were full of it. He was great right up until he told them anyone using the term "pregnant person", and he was telling them Biden was going to be Ruth Bader Biden if he didn't step aside early on.

He's more in touch with reality than the voting wing of his party is.

"You're not better than George Washington just because you have a gay friend and he didn't. Because if you were alive then, you wouldn't; and if he was alive now, he would."

"Did Columbus commit atrocities? Of course! But people back then were generally atrocious."

Perhaps, but only one of those groups broke the law.
yes, but I don't dispute that, either.

Slab is the one who essentially mocked me as saying "both sides" after he doesn't care much for Maher (which is fine). Now I like Slab, and I have a good sense of humor (and so does he), but this "both sides" mockery has become a security blanket to dismiss penetrating scrutiny of folks arguing tribally, too. And I made the ACCURATE point that both sides DO NOT try to pretend men can have babies.

Fact is, Maher DID tell the Democrats back around 2021 or so that they needed to squelch this "men can have babies" nonsense in the (pardon the pun) cradle. And given the commercials Trump blistered Harris with on "used to be boys playing girls sports," Maher was dead on right.

YES - absolutely - Trump should have been jailed for what he incited on January 6, 2021, I've never made any bones about that. We see now he could have sent in the Guard, too, which we always knew.

Not everything is "both sides," no.

But then again, I didn't say that, either.

Yep. It's a deflection from reality, as if their party is somehow any better than the other when anyone who can fog a mirror knows otherwise. But it definitely has become a tool for deflection.

anecdotally, the only people I have ever heard talk about “men having babies” is right wing and independent folks attributing this position to “democrats”

in almost every instance, that was on tfns

maybe it’s the above it all “both sides” approach thats actually a tool for deflection
It may be for some, but others (like myself) have long realized this "B.S." called politics in America is made up of people who care about nothing but their own interests and don't care one thing about the average American citizen or the overall health of the country. All it takes is going back through history to realize both parties have lied at some point, both parties have made promises that they were in a position to keep but didn't, people in both parties have somehow become very, very rich while supposedly only making a modest salary in office. Both parties have been caught in scandals at one point or another etc. They're nothing more than jealous siblings who, at the end of the day, share a lot of the same traits.

I guess some people truly believe one party is better than the other, more honest than the other, and more sincere than the other. I'm just not one of those people. I lean conservative but am under no delusion that this mess we have in office right now cares one thing about me or he wouldn't be doing some of the things he's doing or handling them the way he has. But I'm also under no delusion that the democratic party is any better.

in the reality that is our two party system, i very much believe one party is better for governing than the other

I like Maher. I don't always agree with him (obviously) but I truly do believe he calls balls and strikes as he sees them. The exception, of course, is when the topic is Trump. He is softening up some, but for the longest time it was impossible to get a rational take from this guy when it comes to that one subject. (And he had a lot of company in this country.)

Bill's podcast is pretty good; I like it better than the show. Check it out next time you're in the market for a new podcast. He has gotten his ass handed to him quite a few times, but he takes it like a man.
