I want to give Coach a bit of credit for what's gone on this year. Yes, it may have been his fault for integrating Winston too quickly into the team, causing a Chemical Reaction that sent us into a tailspin....

But.....(with the tragic firing of his cleaning lady ---LOL, see that thread for the joke)....he was able to analyze the problems, made some major adjustments, and look what's happened...

Putting Pettway in as a 2nd Point guard on the floor was brilliant, now we have two Pts and two 2 guards at all times, they can flip back and forth very easily....

Kennedy is the real deal, and Mark's let him find his way....

The substitution patterns with inserting Shelton and Meade one game, then maybe using ET and Lucky in the next, or sometimes popping in Rambo and Demetrius at times. He's made good choices, has them playing their best right now...and that's what a good coach does.

I do believe he was overcoaching for a while, but he's got them playing great, and if he could get Kenny to relax a bit, this team is still prime for a Sweet 16 appearance....

How soon they forget about us, and that's the perfect place for us to be...

So, Coach!! (Cheers!! Great job!!)

Good post CC! I also remember him saying he was going to play all the youngster's alot, regardless what happened early on. It looks like that is paying off down the stretch to. I support him, he know's what ALABAMA means, and loves it.

Agreed!!
Plus we've all said that CMG is young & has to go through some growing pains as a young coach, & I stated early that if he turns this season around, it would probably be his best coaching yet. Great Job CMG!

I think it may have been too little too late.
I like CMG but he has done a terrible jon this year. Ya'll saw it the games we did win early we did with standaround offense. good defense won the games. How many games did it take YOU (a non coach) to figure the offense did not move well without the ball and all they did was try and get it to a double or triple teamed Dudley. They could win the NC but still CMG did a terrible job adjusting. Had he adjusted ear;y would we be a shoo-in for the NC.

How in the world can you say he did a good job we were #1 in the country now we're beggin for a NCAA Tourney berth. I guess you and I have different measuring sticks.

What you said about us being #1 points towards my feelings about Gottfried. I think he's doing a great job as a coach. I don't care if we were #1 early in the season or not, but to get there (even when we don't deserve it) makes me feel great about our coach. It shows how he's doing the right thing. And the way he (and the sr.'s) have made this team what it is, just boggles my mind. I just don't know how ppl could say, "Fire CMG!" when he has been above and beyond Hobbs. I congratulate our team for how hard they've played even through the woes. I'll admit we have a boring offense, but it's picking up and snowballing. I say we beat LSU, pick up an UPSET (in everybody's mind) in the SEC tourny and wind up with a #7 seed in the tourny. But we'll just wait and see.

What you mean made us go from a #1 to seed to a bubble team...? I don't mean that as a knock on the players, though. They are still there and did not give up.

When did YOU realize that the offense stood around and relied 100% on Dudley..?

How many games were lost before CMG saw it...?

I would no way say fire CMG (unless Bob Knight was interested) I like him as a coach & as a person. However I ain't gonna pretty it up just cause he finally made adjustments after
we were just about toast. I am not saying he is terrible I am saying he did a terrible job.
You saw the offense the players could have just as good or better without a coach.

Have you just started watching them or something. They just recently look like they know how to run an offensive play. This is March a little bit late to start coaching.

Don't take that wrong but you saw it and I saw it. They are playing better than they have all year and I expect them to win on Saturday. I just wish they would have got a clue earlier

CMG still may have THE worst road record in
the SEC. That is bad. Look at Tubby & his Cats
they sucked he nade adjustments THEN they have nost lost since. That is a GREAT job of coaching.

When I say it boggles my mind, I'm talking about the long haul. We were nothing, now we're something. And yes, i've been watching all season and I know exactly what you're saying. We have a slow high low offense where the main idea is to get it to #35. I didn't like it, and still don't, but I really don't blame it on the coach. He could've changed it up a bit, but he didn't, which was a mistake. But we're doing better now. And you have to look at the fact the CMG is a very young head coach as far as college ball is concerned, so it will happen. Anyways, it really doesn't matter, because we'll be keeping Gottfried for a long time and it'll pay off. Just be patient. Let the Tide roll on Saturday!

mannish.....

I'd be a great coach to at UK, especially when he gets 4-5 Top 100 prospects each and every year......

But, try to do it with Alabama guys (or maybe North Fla/Mississippi).....we have a very small window of players we can recruit from, and look what we've done.

He lost Grizz and GW early, and still managed to take us from a 2nd Tier SEC squad to #1 in the country????

And he's not a good Coach?

Please....we have kids that work hard, have great attitudes, and play with pride.... UK gets prima-donnas and Blue Chippers.... it's like Duke and UNC.....we usually players that are either from Bama or the region.....

My comments were focused on the fact that we had a crash, but he righted the plane prior to crashing, and now we are climbing again, and getting better each game....

I'd rather be in this position than UT or AU right now....wouldn't you????

The main thing I appreciate about CMG is that he's a class act and he recruits good kids who graduate and represent UA well in the community. Yeah, he's not John Wooden or Phog Allen, but thankfully he's not Jim Harrick either.
We give him a chance, who knows how well it might go for us. It took Dean Smith a decade to turn UNC into a consistent winner, and he came very close to getting fired during that time. As long as our basketball team has class and is competitive, CMG should be our guy.

Hey I am glad he is not N. Richardson either, with his high grad. rate.

Hey mannish! You may be right about tubby and his cats,(look how long he's been coaching in the SEC). Look he is coaching A basketball school full of basketball Tradition. Were full of Football Tradition, that's why BEAR went to a&m. We never seen #1 till CMG got here, and he is very young. If he keeps recruiting like he has and playing players when there young, he will have A machine real soon. Keep your eye's open, if we beat lsu it could get real good.

Man, do I agree with elizabama and others. The points about Bama bball vs. fball are so true. Ask C.M.

As for Mark. IMO, Mark is one of the top five young coaches in the nation. And, Mark plays by the rules. And, he graduates players. And, he puts them on the SEC all-academic team. When have you seen one of our bball players in any kind of trouble?

On the other side, Mark is a young coach. He learns too. He brought the UCLA offense to Bama. That just didn't work. But, he has adjusted. But....the mark of a well coached team, IMO, is playing defense. Does anyone doubt our defense? Teaching defense is so much harder than offense.

For those that don't know, I'm a CMG fan.

RTR!!!

RTR I agree, plus UNC's Matt Doherty, right is not burning it up, but I think this guy is going to great one day(if UNC gives him time)

I agree with everything that has been said on this thread. However, now that we have tasted the good life and some success in Men's Basketball, how long do we have to wait for this Basketball Team to go to the next level? Sweet 16? With the talent this team has coming back, with the recruits coming in, with changes(assistants), I hope CMG makes, how long?

at what point do you start to question CMG. How long is he going to be very young. He has been an assistant at UCLA, HC at Murray State, several years at Bama. As previously stated on this thread they got primma-donnas, blue chippers at UCLA so whatever he did there as an assistant did not matter since they get some of the best players. Since Bama doesn't have talent like the Kentuckys or UCLAs..etc Then do we give up getting to the sweet 16. If we can only get players like Mo Williams, Kennedy Wintson, Lucky Williams...etc will we always be at disadvantage to the teams that get good talent. So Tubby would lose at Bama with the second class talent they bring it.

So how long will CMG be 'very young' and how long do we give him to go farther into the tourney...?
