Here are two team photos from the 1934 team. Both pictures appear to be the same photo with one more crop down for smaller size.
HOWEVER- if you look at the right top corner you will see Number 45 is in the second photo and not in the first. It appears to have been the exact same picture.

The first photo is taken from a 1993 CD that says it is the 1934 team photo. The second (with Number 45 in it) is the same one that is in the 2005 media guide that says it is the 1934 team.
It appears that the photo is the same except 45 is in the second. Everyone is in the exact pose in both photos.
This is before any Photoshop and both pics are from the University of Alabama.
Any help from anyone?????

Second picture has to be altered in some way. It has 2 number 45's :conf2:

The disappearing #45 must be one of Marty McFly's relatives.

Back to the Future anyone?

I always love it when Back to the Future can be pulled into a football discussion. Great Scott!

Could #45 have been "removed" from the team for some unknown reason, and the powers that be wanted all evidence of him gone?

Trust no one Agent Mulder.

Something fishy about that #20 on the row in front of Joe,on the rt. end. Either that or Popeye was on that team. Somebody monkeyed around with the photo, Photoshop or not.

Editing/manipulating photos has been around since photography was invented. The Soviets were masters at it. Not sure why it was done here though.

Be easier to tell with a larger version, but also looks like the background is mismanaged on the second photo. It appears that Number 45 is standing behind Number 43. They overlap almost to the point where 43's arm begins to obscure the 4 on the other jersey. Nonetheless, you can also see what appears to be the black background color between them, following the curve of 43's left shoulder. Could just be a strange shadow, but.... Also, No. 20 got a really bad haircut in photo 2. Maybe done the old fashioned way, with a razor blade and paste.

Re: Look at these two photo from the 1934 team??Odd

There are several other differences between the two images.

One difference is scale. The second image has been zoomed slightly and cropped. There is also a slight difference in perspective. The second image appears to have been laid back slightly. Both differences could have occurred when the images were scanned from the prints, or when the prints were developed from the negatives.

There are other shading and lighting differences. The second image appears to have some fading or darkening just to the left of the center. It also appears to have had the contrast adjusted.

I have adjusted for scale and perspective, and superimposed the second image with a 50% opacity setting. This lets you compare the two images as if you were seeing through the second one. The only difference is the additional player. Everyone else is in the exact same spot, holding the exact same pose.

There are some minor distortions throughout the combined image. This is due to the low resolution of the scans I had to work with.

Alright, that's enough of this speculating. Let's get the P.F.I. Squad on this, stat. (Photo Forensic Investigation)

I want a report on my desk by dusk.:)

If I had to guess, it looks as though the guy on the end was added later. Looking at the first picture, the formation looks fairly uniform around the edges. Having #45 where he is sort of makes it irregular.

This kind of reminds me of those panoramic shots of a high school senior class. There was one a few years before me where a guy was in the picture twice. Being on the end, he was able to run around behind everybody and get back in the picture.

Re: Look at these two photo from the 1934 team??Odd

My first thought was that there were two #45's in the original, someone later said ***, and removed the one in the back row.

However, in blowing up the photo's, it does look like #45 was added later. The edge around #43's left shoulder does not look natural, or like simlar shodows cast in other parts of the photo. It's a wonderment!

Also, is that Olive Oil (#60) in front of Popeye (#20)?

Re: Look at these two photo from the 1934 team??Odd

With only 50-60 players, I would not think they would have duplicate numbers. Since the one is question is a duplicate, my vote would be that it was probably not part of the original photo....
