I have always been a little curious about this. Perhaps someone on the board might know. Does anyone have any idea as to why LSU prefers to wear their white road jerseys at home? I've seen them wear the purple and gold home jersey, so the white is definitely an improvement; But, what is their aversion to wearing NCAA-designated colored uniforms at home?

I live in Lafayette, about 50 miles west of Baton Rouge, but I am a BAMA fan 40 years +. I think they prefer the white jerseys all the time, home or away due to the fact when they last won a national title under Paul Dietzel in '58 they had three teams; White Team (first team), Go Team (offense oriented ), and the Chinese Bandits ("D" specialists ). Too, they play most of their games in heat and dark shirts are hotter.

I love BAMA's CRIMSON shirts every game.

ROLL DAMN TIDE !!!

I remember a few years ago when LSU played Florida in Gainesville, Spurrier decided Florida would wear their away jerseys just to make LSU wear their purple and gold jerseys. That was classic Spurrier

is correcto. I remember the tri-mode team Coach Dietzel fielded also.

They have always worn the white except on the few occasions when the other team forced them to, which hasn't been too often. Superior, I also think was last to do it to them.

It must be some kind of swamp voodoo-good luck charm-stuff they depend on. It hain't worked on us much over the years.

I like...

that they want us to wear crimson. I'm convinced that we play better in crimson (of course, home field may have something to do with that).

actually, i cant remember us not wearing crimson in baton rouge. they always wear white. i think they have worn purple more this year(twice) than any other year. it's a tradition for lsu, much like the cowboys. i also hear that the fans are always worried when they come out in purple because the team doesnt seem to play as well. if you look at the games they have played in purple, it kind of holds true. troy and oregon st this year, uab a few yrs ago. those are the only one i can think of off the bat but i distincly remember hearing that from a lsu fan.

It's been a good many years...

since we wore white in BR. It was done by consent, which everyone honored for years, until SOS, true to type, raised a stink about it. The current rule is as has been stated above - LSU wears white unless the visiting team objects...

Someone on an LSU message board told me it was simply a tradition started/re-started under Gerry Dinardo when he took over at LSU. Again, I don't know if that's true but just following up. What you guys said about the throwback to the days of their winning their last NC as a reason for wearing white sounds good to me.

Roll Tide!

I read this years ago

There is a "gentlemen's agreement" between the SEC coaches on this. Technically, at home, LSU is supposed to wear the purple but as stated by some, they always prefer their white jerseys (for whatever reason). If the opposing HC doesn't object (which very seldom happens), LSU can and does wear the white jerseys.

I remember maybe ten years ago, Vanderbilt decided that when they came to Baton Rouge, they were going to be hardcases and make LSU wear the dark jerseys. LSU then came out with gold jerseys on. Good Lord, they were HIDEOUS!

Personally, I wouldn't care if LSU came out wearing pink tutus. I just want Bama to win.

From what I've been told in the past, LSU only wears the purple jerseys at home against out-of-conference opponents. Probably stemming from the fact that they do not have the same SEC agreement mentioned previously by TiderinVA.

i know you said it was an agreement with other sec coaches, but i always thought that the home team could decide what colors to wear no matter what. it doesnt make sense to me that an away team can object to a home team wearing white.

lsu used to wear white for just about every home

hame until the early 80s, when the ncaa forced the home team to wear the dark jerseys.
in 95, dinardo got the rule modified to allow us to wear white if the other team did not object. that year, vandy refused because of dinardo, so we wore gold. spurrier used that rule against us in gainesville, wearing white in 98, and 2001, so wear wore gold and purple, respectively

the rule now in the sec is the home team decides, non conference games still need permission
the last few years, the players have asked for a change, so we wear purple for non conference, non opening games. this year in our fiorst game, oregon state decided not to wear black unis in baton rouge in september, so we wore gold.
