LSU Spring Game

Ford was good, but I think Stevan Ridley will be the starter. He was the most impressive to me.

Ford and Ridley did look good, but its really hard to tell since their Defensive Line pretty much got whipped all day. Maybe their Offensive line was better than advertised. Who knows??

the commentators kept mentioning that LSU front 4 has speed, but needed to get better at stopping the run, esp. in SEC play (i.e. Bama).

LSU's front 7 looked udersized and not very well coached. They looked size wise the way they're HS scouting video probably looked. They will definetly have to bulk up and be coached up. Looked like the coaches just said go getem and then they were blown backwards unless it was a pass play.

I think a third alternative is that the players are just not being developed. I think that is where the real difference between Miles and Saban is beginning to appear. Miles won a NC with a senior class that had been recruited by and largely developed by Saban and his staff. Miles was able to continue the recruiting, but player development has declined. Similar to, but not as bad as our Shula ear, Shula got decent recruits in the door, but they did not develop as Div. I football players.

The fact that he hasn't been able to recruit a servicable QB is surprising though. Of course maybe he has and the issue is coaching again.

I agree. Thats what I was alluding to in my previous post. I think a lot of it falls back on Miles not developing them, not coaching them up or whatever. Like you said, it also appears he's not recruiting well at the qb position if Lee is being discussed as their best option, and thats what I'm getting from their boards.

I said this last year and for what it is worth I will post it again. Jordan Jefferson is not an SEC caliber QB. You would think either Miles or Crowton would figure this out.

You hit the nail on the head with that. The thing I think that makes Saban and this staff so valuable is they are the best in the country at developing players. I mean Saban even turned Cory Reamer and Marquise Johnson into very good players. Joe Pendry is one of the best offensive line coaches in the country also. Our offensive line has done great things since Pendry came here with Saban.

I don't have any doubt that Pendry is good and the change in our OL play has been astounding. However, when measuring against "Ol' Bucket Step Bob" a partially trained monkey would be an improvement. Also, a committment to a work-out regime has paid huge dividends.

I hear ya. Scott Cochran is another valuable member of our coaching staff. I think he and his program are one of the reasons we haven't had many injuries in the last few seasons. I can't believe Dave Radar got hired at Ole Miss. lol It might have just been Mike Shula calling the plays back then but whoever was calling them didn't do a good job. Run up the middle was their favorite play. It still makes me angry that we let Leron McClain go to waste while he was here. He made the pro bowl last year. He is one hell of a runningback now for the Ravens and is very good in short yardage situations.

You are really criticizing fans not going to a spring game.. last I checked we only cared about ours since Saban arrived. Most spring games average around that.

and FTR their Dline looked like it was getting pressure on the QB's all day. You saw JJ making a bad throw. I saw JJ being forced out of the pocket and having to throw the ball away or before he wanted to just to avoid a sack.

Sounds like sour grapes. It's hard to defend lazy fans who do not go out and support their team. You somehow made an effort. As far as having a pass rush and two QB's who can not throw on the run, well that just sucks. Your defense could not stop the run and that was my point. Champions never make excuses. Remember 2007 was Saban's Recruits. Huge difference with the players Les has now. Talent going to waste. You saw a lot, QB's running to avoid the sack? So what does that say about your comments and your wonderful team?

I saw a defense that could not stop the run. I see John Chavis in his last season at Lsu if that defense can not stop the run. The two QB's Jefferson and Lee. I pray those two are the ones leading the Tiggers. ROLL TIDE ROLL

As an LSU fan who watched the spring game, the DL is definitely a concern. Granted, 3 of our starting 4 DL (Nevis, Downs and Agaheyre) were held out but still, we were pushed around. Who knows, may our OL is better this year....they certainly look bigger....but it's a spring game, so who really knows. All I can say with any real certainty is that there is a lot of work to be done before we play UNC.
